Vera Reader Vera reader, 93, died on Monday, September 17, 2018 with all of her children at her bedside except for her youngest daughter, Mary, who with open arms was waiting for her at the gates of Heaven. Born on October 22, 1924 to Harry and Margaret Steighner in the Vil- lage of Herman in Butler County, Pa. Vera enjoyed a happy childhood and a successful young adulthood. after high school she attended Cos- metology school. She answered a recruitment advertisement by Owens illinois and came to N.J. to work in the glass factory intending to save her earnings and return home to open her own beauty salon. that did not happen because she met and married her husband, Joseph reader and re- mained in Vineland for the rest of her life. During her marriage she had seven children and was an at-home mother for all of their childhood years. She was a devout Catholic and used those principles to raise her family and to pass her faith on to all of her children. She lived all her days with great devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and prayed the rosary daily. in the early 1970s she was employed at Bishop McCarthy Convalescent Center as a di- etary technician and from there went to the Vineland Children’s residential Center where she worked until her retirement. She was an accomplished seamstress and also enjoyed cro- chet and crewel embroidery. She was rivaled by none when it came to baking, creating the most delectable cakes, pies and pastries. Vera’s life revolved around her family and she filled her children’s lives with love and care. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; her daughter, Mary Grimaldi; sons-in-law, Wayne, Danny, Bruno, and Chucki; her parents, Harry and Margaret Steighner; brothers, Harry, Gerald, Gilbert and Louis. Rita V. Lucca rita V. Lucca (nee rudolph), age 90, formerly of Hammonton died Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the Spring Village in Galloway. rita was born on January 3, 1928 in Philadelphia to the late Henry and Julia rudolph. rita moved to Hammonton at the age of 10 and be- came a lifelong resident. She studied at atlantic City Hospital and became a registered Nurse. rita had a long and extensive nursing career provid- ing care at William B. Kessler Memorial Hospital until her retirement. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed sewing and crocheting for her fam- ily and watching the Phillies win the World Series. rita was also an ac- complished painter and enjoyed making cards for her family and many grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Salvatore a. Born in Philadelphia, she moved to Hammonton in October 1971 and graduated from Hammonton High School in 1973. Cathy attended aCC and enjoyed being a Home Health Care aide. She retired from ancora Hospital in 2007. Cathy is predeceased by her parents, Maurice and Stella ferry; her sis- ter and brother-in-law, Maureen and tom McCarty. Cathy is survived by her loving children, Lisa and anthony; beloved grandmother of tristian, Jordan and Lucas; her twin sister, Mary; sisters, terri, Bernadette, Patty (tom), Dalene (Greg) and brothers, Maurice, Michael (Debbie) and Joseph (tina); her 16- year-old kitty cat, tiger. Saturday, September 22, 1:25 p.m. Police make three drug-related arrests POLICE, from Page 1 Police approached the vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop. “the driver of the vehicle checked OK, but the passengers of the vehicle were found to have warrants, to be in possession of drug paraphernalia, and one was in possession of drug paraphernalia and drugs, namely controlled dan- gerous substance heroin,” friel said. arrested were the following, friel said: • Passenger roy Hyson, 31, of elmer, was found to be in posses- sion of a baggie containing nine hypodermic needle syringes, wax paper baggies with powdery residue in them, a clear plastic bag- gie with a white powdery sub- stance believed to be heroin and a glass crack pipe, friel said. He was also found to have warrants from Deptford twp. for $300, Camden for $1,000 and Salem County Sheriff’s Department for $16,545, friel said. friel said Hyson was in- carcerated in the atlantic County Jail pending a court appearance. • Passenger Holly Hyson, 32, of Bridgeton, was found to be in pos- session of drug paraphernalia, nine hypoderm ic needles and drug para- phernalia, friel said. She was found to have two active warrants, one from Vineland for $5,000 and one from Millville for $751, friel said, and was turned over the Vineland Police Department, who brought her to the Cumberland County Jail where she was incar- cerated pending a court appear- ance. • Heather Hyson, 29, of Vineland, was found to be in pos- session of drug paraphernalia, had 48 hypodermic needles, and three glass crack pipes, friel said. She was found to have an outstanding NCiC warrant from the Cumber- land County Sheriff’s Office, friel said, and was turned over to the Vineland Police Department, who brought her to the Cumberland County Jail, where she was incar- Jean Leonard Jean Leonard, nee Varsaci, of Boca raton, fla. died friday, September 21, 2018 at the age of 88. He was re- leased pending a court date in Hammonton Joint Municipal Court, friel said. in other police business, police arrested faustino Concepcion, 27, of Pleasantville, who turned him- self in to police at the Hammonton Police Department at 12:26 a.m. on September 19 for a warrant in the amount of $350 from Pleas- antville, friel said. Concepcion was released on his own recognizance with a court date pending in Pleasantville, friel said. friel said K-9 Officer robert zbikowski was the arresting offi- cer. in other police news, on Sep- tember 19 at 9:28 a.m., police re- ceived a report of a theft on the prime block of Wells avenue, friel said. “it was reported that between august 29 and September 4 that approximately $3,000 worth of scrap copper wire was taken from a company,” friel said. it is unknown who took the scrap copper wire and when it was taken, friel said. friel is the investigating officer, he said.
