OBITuARIES Marion Salvatore

Marion Salvatore ( nee Lisi ), 91 , of Hammonton , died on Sunday , September 4 , 2016 , at Samaritan Hospice in Mt . Holly .

Born in Hammonton , she was a lifelong resident there . Before retiring , Marion worked at Crown Pants Company and Romolo ’ s Pants Company both in Hammonton . She was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing Worker ’ s Union , the Hammonton Senior Citizens and , previously , was a longtime member of St . Martin De- Porres R . C . Church . She enjoyed going to the casinos in Atlantic City , cooking , sewing , traveling with her husband , and the wonderful holidays spent with her loving family . Marion enjoyed playing cards with her friends and neighbors , whom she loved dearly and that helped care for her for many years .

She was predeceased by her husband , Nicholas P . Salvatore ; her infant son , Nicholas ; her brother , Girard Lisi and her sister , Theresa Perone . She is survived by one daughter , Diane Boyer ( Mike ); one son , Nick Salvatore ( Karen ) all of Hammonton ; five grandchildren , Colleen DeSilvio ( Alex II ), Christina Olivo ( Frank ), Cindy Boyer ( Anthony Bracarello ), Nicholas Salvatore Jr ., and Steven Salvatore ; seven great-grandchildren , Hailey , Alex III , Daniel , Luke , Michael , Kayla and Jaylynn , and many nieces and nephews .

A viewing will be held on Friday , September 9 , 2016 , from 9:30 a . m . – 11 a . m . at St . Mary of Mt . Carmel Parish Church of St . Joseph ’ s , 226 French Street in Hammonton , where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a . m . Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in Hammonton .

In lieu of flowers , donations may be made to St . Mary of Mt . Carmel Parish , 226 French Street , Hammonton , NJ 08037 , or to Samaritan Hospice , 5 Eves Drive , Suite 300 , Marlton , NJ 08053 .

Jack B . Entrikin

Jack B . Entrikin , 84 , of Elm , died on Saturday , September 3 , 2016 , at the Hammonton Center .

Born in Hammonton , he was a lifelong resident of the Hammonton and Elm area . Mr . Entrikin served in the U . S . Air Force during the Korean War . Before retiring , he worked as a Central Office Technician for Bell Atlantic in Hammonton . He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local No . 827 and the Hammonton Presbyterian Church .

Mr . Entrikin was predeceased by his parents , Vernon and Margaret Entrikin , and two brothers , Vernon Entrikin and William Entrikin . He is survived by his beloved wife , Jo Ann Entrikin ; two daughters , Cindy Maccarella ( Richard ) of Bradenton , Fla ., and Nancy Gazzara ( Patrick ) of Littleton , NC ; one son , Jack Entrikin of Hammonton ; one granddaughter , Kristal Shakya and one great-granddaughter , Diamond Shakya .

A viewing will be held on Wednesday , September 7 , 2016 , from 10 a . m . – 11 a . m . at the Carnesale Funeral Home in Hammonton , where Funeral Services will take place at 11a . m . Entombment will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in Hammonton .

September 11 service at Veterans Park

HAMMONTON — On Sunday , September 11 at 3 p . m ., the Hammonton Ministerium will host a Service of Peace at the Veterans Memorial Park in honor of the 15th anniversary of the attacks of September 11 , 2001 . Included in the service will be prayers of gratitude for local first responders as well as music and a message of unity . There will be representatives from the Hammonton Police and Fire Departments as well as other first responders present .

Ministers of local churches and synagogue will lead the service to promote peace and unity in our community and our nation . The organization invites the members of our town to join the ministerium in this important community event .

LOBIONDO , from Page 1 tional assets that require constant monitoring is that we are the only Coast Guard recruit training center in the country , which is in Cape May . Both that and the tech center had formal proposals to move a while back , one to California and the other to Oklahoma City . Because of that we really have to keep things front and center , and pay attention to them here . The Coast Guard Air Station at the AC Airport is the largest Coast Guard helicopter air space in the country . The other national asset is the 177th fighter wing , which is the premier homeland security base in the country . To keep that relevant and to keep it off the Base Realignment and Closure Commission ’ s radar screen has meant a series of military construction projects to strengthen the footprint . If I ’ m fortunate enough to have the faith and trust of the voters put in me again , next year , we will have the renewal of the federal flight insurance program . That was a big battle a couple of years ago because there is a whole segment of members of Congress who want to see the federal flight insurance program eliminated . For a state like New Jersey on the coast , that ’ s a big problem .

Q . Over the past number of years , Hammonton has and continues to grow and develop as a destination area . What can the town do to continue this trend ?

A . Hammonton has been one of the very positive stories with an aggressive partnership that they put together . Recognizing the assets that the town has , utilizing those assets and bringing folks together , I think it ’ s a model that works and is successful . From time to time I ’ ve had an opportunity to play a very small role with some of the federal things that go into that . I think if something is working and something is getting results that you stick with it . It has everything to do with the people . Other towns come up with a great plan but don ’ t have people with the right attitude or the right initiative , and it just doesn ’ t go . Hammonton brings all of the right aspects together .

Q . Hammonton is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year . As someone who openly enjoys his time in Hammonton and was able to speak at the town ’ s Founders ’ Day event earlier this year , what does this mean to you ?

A . It ’ s a real source of pride . When you look at the roots of a community , I try to imagine what it must ’ ve been like just before the official corporation or just after . The attitude of the people , could they ever imagine we ’ d be at this stage now ? All the people that have come through all those years resulting in such a fantastic community now . Hammonton has always been a very special place for me for a lot of reasons , and it continues to be a source of great pride .

Q . Regarding this year ’ s election , I ’ ve heard many people talk about how they ’ re going to be voting for “ the less of two evils .” How did such a prestigious and important job like the president end up in a situation like this ?

A . I think the whole country is asking each other that . We have a

system , and we have a process . This is what has come out of the system and the process . It ’ s really hard to imagine where we are , but in the end , this is where we are . In 67 days , [ EDITOR ’ S NOTE : The interview was held on September 1 .] the country is going to have to make a decision . I think that a lot of people have been paying very close attention because of the personalities involved . Typically speaking , a good portion of the undecided voters don ’ t really pay attention until the last three weeks . That ’ s going to be really critical this year . How will Mr . Trump handle himself in the next two months ? We had more news about Mrs . Clinton this week , more emails that she insisted didn ’ t exist . Now there ’ s a classified email four months after she leaves her position as Secretary of State that she sent on a private email . Are people just going to get numb to all this or is there going to be something at a certain point that ’ s the last straw ?

Q . You ’ ve been a congressman for a number of presidential elections . What is the overall feeling of members of Congress about this year ’ s candidates ? A . There ’ s a different feeling . The members that I ’ m friendly with , both Republicans and Democrats , lots of times when something comes out in the news about our party ’ s nominee , there ’ s just a shaking of the head . It ’ s just like : “ Really ? Can you believe this ?” But like I said , our system will decide . I don ’ t think the country has quite been in this place before with nominees .

Q . What is the status in Atlantic City ? The latest rumor is that the Trump Taj Mahal will be closing soon . If this happens , is it another monumental hit ?

A . Yes , it ’ s another really bad hit . I don ’ t think a lot of people are really shocked because the Taj has had challenges and problems for a couple of years with how Mr . [ Carl ] Icahn and the people there have been trying to work things out . The Taj news would be bad enough if not for the clock ticking in Atlantic City on the
