Come on, let’s twist again, like we did last summer Yeah, let’s twist again, twistin’ time is here — “Let’s Twist Again” Chubby Checker You could easily insert the words “let’s cruise again” into those lyrics, and capture the flavor of one of the town’s favorite events: Cruisin’ MainStreet on September 6. For two decades, Cruisin’ has been putting smiles on the faces of people throughout the region, who come to Hammonton to see the cars line the streets of the downtown while Friday traffic flows through on its way to catch the final warm weekends of the season. The stores and restaurants downtown are all open, the cars are in the parking spots and lots, and the traffic is moving through, with some tourists stopping by the show, who turned off to join in the fun. Whether you grew up in the 1950s or just love the cars, music, hula hoops and fashions of the era, come on down and enjoy good old-fashioned family fun. There’s music and dancing in the streets as well. In recent years, cars from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, along with some older models have also showed up and parked on the streets of Hammonton. Passersby love to look at the beautiful cars and reminisce, or discover something new at each Cruisin’ MainStreet. Most importantly, Cruisin’ MainStreet — sponsored by MainStreet Hammonton and the Cruisin’ Classics Auto Club — brings thousands of people downtown, providing much-needed support to local businesses. That support is always appreciated. Good luck to event chairman Angela Donio, the members of the Cruisin’ Classics Auto Club and everyone who volunteers to make this event one of the most popular and beloved nights on the local calendar.
