HAMMONTON — A commercial truck left the roadway and hit several parked cars at a commercial location on the 400 block of S . White Horse Pike ( Route 30 ) at 9:47 a . m . on August 5 , Hammonton Police Chief Kevin Friel said .
Vehicle number one , a 2016 blue Western Star commercial truck , was traveling west on the White Horse Pike ( Route 30 ) when it veered off the roadway

David W . James

David W . James , 78 , of Hammonton , N . J . passed away on Saturday , August 20 , 2022 surrounded by his loving family .
David was born in Camden , N . J . and raised in Maple Shade and Collingswood . He graduated from Collingswood High School in 1962 where he was inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame . David was also a 1968 graduate of West Chester University . He was a teacher for over 30 years at Highland Regional High School and retired in 1999 . While at Highland , David coached both cross country and track & field as well as being their athletic director . During his many years as a coach , he was inducted into the Highland Hall of Fame , South Jersey Coaches Hall of Fame and NJSIAA State Coaches Hall of Fame . He is predeceased by his parents , Bruce and Nellie ( nee Miller ) James . David is survived by his loving wife of 54 years , Sara Jean James ( nee Stetson ); his daughter , Kristen Mull and son-in-law Matt ; brother , Richard James and wife Lynn ; sisters , Diane Dapkey and husband Bruce ; Nancy Snow and husband Bob ; and brother-in law- Willis J . Stetson Jr . and wife Sally . He is the loving grandfather of Reagan , Aaron and Cooper Mull . He is the caring uncle to Kenneth , Vicki , Lindsey and Matthew .
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Friday , August 26 , 2022 from 5 p . m . to 7 p . m . at the Marinella Funeral Home 102 N . Third St . Hammonton , NJ 08037 . A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 7 p . m . at the funeral home .

Richard V . Sabatini

Richard V . Sabatini , 79 , of Levittown , Pa . passed away peacefully on Sunday , May 29 , 2022 .
He was born and raised in Bristol Boro until he was 9 years old and moved to Hammonton , N . J . where he graduated Hammonton High School , Class of 1960 . Richard started his career in the radio industry in Hammonton , then went on to be a reporter for local newspapers in and around Bucks County and then became a police reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer where he retired after over 40 years . During his career , he was the International Vice President of the Newspaper Guild where he served for many years . Richard also served on the Bristol Township Civil Service Commission , Pennsbury Arts Foundation and did fundraising for various animal shelters and rescues . He is predeceased by his parents , Richard and Laura Sabatini , and many aunts and uncles . Richard will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 43 years , Denise ; his sister-in-law , Cynthia Scalisi and her husband Frank ; and his three guinea pigs , Reese , Marshmallow and KitKat .
Family and friends gathered on Monday , June 6 , 2022 , from 6 p . m . to 8 p . m . and again Tuesday morning from 8 a . m . to 8:45 a . m . at the Galzerano Funeral Home , 3500 Bristol – Oxford Valley Road , Levittown , PA 19057 . Funeral Mass began at 9:30 a . m . at St . Frances Cabrini , 325 S . Oxford Valley Road , Fairless Hills , PA 19030 . Interment followed at Resurrection Cemetery .
In lieu of flowers , memorial contributions may be made to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary , 5001 Angel Canyon Rd , Kanab , UT 84741 , or any local non-kill rescues or shelters .

Truck hits parked cars

and struck six vehicles , which were parked for sale at an auto repair and sales establishment , then striking a pole and coming to rest , Friel said .
The driver , Charles Kile , 61 , of Madisonville , Tenn ., was not injured in the incident , Friel said .
Kile was charged with careless driving , Friel said .
Friel said Officer Eric Pohl was the arresting officer .

Police are investigating , Friel said . The description of the vehicle seen in the area was a Chrysler Town & Country van , dark in color , Friel said .

In other police news , officers made a number of driving while under the influence ( DWI ) arrests during the past week , including the following , Friel said .
• On August 18 at 11:04 p . m ., at the intersection of Third Street and Caldwell Avenue , a motor vehicle stop became a driving while under the influence ( DWI ) arrest , Friel said .
Officer Kyle Ambrozaitis stopped a vehicle for being unregistered on N . Third Street near Caldwell Avenue , Friel said . In speaking with the driver , Pedro Sanchez , 30 , of Blackwood , Ambrozaitis detected the strong odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath and person , and his eyes appeared to be bloodshot , Friel said .
Sanchez was arrested , transported to the Hammonton Police Department for processing and charged with the following motor

‘ Distraction ’ burglars sought by HPD

vehicle offenses : driving while under the influence , unregistered vehicle , reckless driving , careless driving and refusal to submit to breath testing , Friel said .
He was released as per John ’ s Law pending a court appearance in Hammonton Joint Municipal Court , Friel said .
• On August 20 at 12:33 a . m ., in a separate and unrelated arrest also made by Ambrozaitis , he observed a vehicle failing to stop at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and West Orchard Street , Friel said .
The vehicle was stopped in the 300 block of N . Second Street , and Ambrozaitis spoke with the driver , Pascual Baltazar , 19 , of Hammonton , who appeared disoriented and confused , with slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol emanating from his breath and person , Friel said .
Friel said Baltazar was placed under arrest for operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol , transported to police headquarters for processing and charged with the following motor vehicle violations : driving while under the influence , unlicensed driver , failure to possess the registration , failure to possess the insurance card , careless driving , reckless driving , failing to maintain lane of travel , disregard of stop sign , open container of alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle and failure to wear his seat belt , Friel said .
He was released as per John ’ s Law pending a court appearance in Hammonton Joint Municipal Court , Friel said .
Ambrozaitis was the arresting and charging officer in both incidents , Friel said .
• On August 20 at 1:27 a . m . at the intersection of Bellevue Avenue and Elvins Lane , Eduardo Tolentino-Marin , 18 , of Hammonton was found to have a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath , Friel said .
He was placed under arrest , transported to police headquarters for processing and charged with the following motor vehicle violations : driving while under the influence , careless driving , reckless driving , failing to maintain lane of travel and unregistered vehicle , Friel said .
Tolentino-Marin was released as per John ’ s Law pending a court appearance in Hammonton Joint Municipal Court , Friel said .
Hoffman was the arresting and charging officer , Friel said .
• On August 20 at 11:48 p . m ., in a separate and unrelated incident , police received a call of a subject traveling the wrong way in a vehicle on Horton Street , Friel said .
