HAMMONtON—Hammonton
continues to propel itself to the
forefront of the arts community.
this weekend’s New Jersey Fringe
Festival was just another example
of the impact that the culture has
had on the town, specifically in its
downtown area.
the three-day festival was the
first of its kind to be held in New
Jersey. 13 separate downtown venues hosted 15 different productions.
An
outdoor
beer
garden/music venue was available
for those who weren’t currently
watching a show and artists showcasing their work and various interactive experiences lined Second
Street.
the central location was the
eagle theatre, which housed Antihero and It Girl during the weekend. each performance was
between 25 and 75 minutes, which
allowed the audience to catch as
many as 10 to 15 shows throughout the day.
Hosting an event like the Fringe
Festival helps to drive traffic into
Hammonton from surrounding
southern New Jersey communities.
taking in the sights and sounds on
Sunday afternoon were Seth Wells
and George Slack, two Haddonfield natives who heard about the
festival from a friend of theirs.
“We have been to the eagle
theatre before. We heard about the
Fringe Festival from a friend of
ours then saw it on Facebook. i
think it’s a great idea and something i hope they get to do again,”
Wells said.
“We’re familiar with Hammonton so it made sense for us to come
check it out. it’s hot, but we’re enjoying ourselves so far,” Slack
said.
Sam brown and his family came
from bordentown to take part in
the weekend festivities.
“My dad found out about it and
said we should come. i’m involved
with musical theater, so it’s perfect
for me. it’s a good event, a lot of
fun. it’s definitely my kind of
thing,” brown said.
