Daniel Cordero Jr .

Daniel Cordero Jr ., 52 , of Hammonton , died on Monday , July 25 in Virtua Health Systems . Born in West Hollywood , fla ., he lived in this area for many years .

He is survived by his two children , Danielle and David Cordero ; his parents , Daniel Cordero Sr . and Julia Morales Cordero of Hammonton ; his sisters , Blanca Cordero , Jessica Cordero , Sandra Lynn Cordero ; his brother , eddie Cordero and many nieces and nephews . friends and family attended a Mass of Christian Burial on friday , July 29 in St . Mary of Mt . Carmel Parish , Church of St . Joseph ’ s , 226 french St ., Hammonton . Burial followed in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery . Arrangements made by the Carnesale funeral Home .

Carol A . Rusnak

Carol A . ( nee Grebowich ) rusnak , 60 , of Waterford , died on Monday , July 25 , 2016 .

She and her husband , George , celebrated their 33rd wedding Anniversary this year . She was a graduate of edgewood High School ( 1973 ) and Glassboro State College ( 1977 ). She worked as a Tax Consultant for H & r Block for 15 years . Carol had been an ardent reader and a player of games with her grandchildren . She was devoted to her family and was “ always there ” for them . She always looked forward to the annual family vacations at Topsail , NC . Carol will be greatly missed but left behind many treasured memories shared with her devoted husband .

Carol was predeceased by her father , Harry Grebowich . She is survived by her mother , Jean ; her husband , George ; her cherished daughter , Diana ( Chris ) Sabella ; her adored grandchildren , Christian and Sophie Sabella ; her dear sister , Barbara ; her forever friend , Pat Horvat and many others . family and friends attended funeral Services on Tuesday , August 2 , 2016 , at the Marinella funeral Home , 102 N . Third St ., Hammonton , NJ . Burial will be private at the convenience of the family . in Lieu of flowers , donations may be made in Carol ’ s memory to the American Porphyria foundation , 4900 Woodway , Suite 780 , Houston , TX 77056 .

Michael A . “ Mickey ” Varsaci

Michael A . “ Mickey ” Varsaci , 81 , of elm , died peacefully on Saturday , July 30 , 2016 , at home .

Born in Hammonton , he was a lifelong Hammonton / elm area resident . Mickey was a retired forklift operator for Whitehall Laboratories in Hammonton . He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War .

Mickey was predeceased by his parents , Joseph and Josephine Varsaci ; his sister , Matilda Caruso ; his brothers , Anthony J . Varsaci and frank Varsaci . He is survived by his son , Michael J . Varsaci of Panama ; his grandchildren , Toby Varsaci , Michael Varsaci Jr .; his dear friend and caregiver , Cindy Berenato of elm ; his sisters , Jean Leonard of florida , Josephine Migliacco and Marie Beebe both of Hammonton ; his brother-in-law , Joseph Caruso ; his sister-in-law , rose Varsaci and his niece and nephews , Jimmy and Donna Migliacco , John , Brian and Michael Beebe , Anthony Mazzeo and Anthony Caruso .

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday , August 4 , 2016 , 11:30 a . m . in St . Mary of Mt . Carmel Parish , Church of St . Joseph ’ s , 226 french St ., Hammonton . entombment will follow in Greenmount Cemetery . A viewing will be held Thursday morning 9 a . m . until 11 a . m . at the Carnesale funeral Home , 202 S . PEACH , from Page 1 really enjoy baking and making special treats for my family . i entered this contest the first year they offered it , and i just enjoyed pushing myself , learning new things and receiving feedback . So , i just think it ’ s a neat opportunity to learn and just have fun baking ,” Krell said .

“ i couldn ’ t be happier with this year ’ s turnout . We had people from all over Hammonton and other towns tell us how much they enjoyed themselves . everything at the party was peach , not just some things here and there , which is exactly what we were going for … i have to thank Home Cookin ’ for the live music and , of course , our sponsor for the event , Atlanti- Care ,” event organizer Linda Cashan said .

“ This year ’ s Peach Party was our best ever . Special thanks to Linda Cashan , owner of Casciano Coffee Bar & Sweetery and Kitchen 19 for her leadership in pulling this event together . We attracted so many new people to our downtown , and it was clear all who attended had a great time ,” MainStreet Hammonton executive Director Cassie iacovelli said .

Among other contests offered at the Peach Party was the Peach fuzz Baby Contest held by Behind the Moon children ’ s shop . The contest invited attendees to have their babies photographed at the start of the festival , and then the photos were posted and voting was open to the public . The top three babies with the most votes would receive gift cards from Behind the Moon .

“ The Peach fuzz Baby contest is one of the main attractions of the day . This year , we had 22 babies enter the contest and each of them were adorable . With the peach games and peach goodies , this is a very family-friendly event ,” iacovelli said .

Aside from contests and games , the main focus of the Peach Party was definitely the food . There were countless vendors offering peach delicacies such as peach iced tea , peach lemonade , peach coffee , peach wine , grilled peaches , peach pies , peach cakes , peach cobblers , peach cinnamon buns and of course fresh peaches . food trucks from Sweet Creations , Beast of the Street and Cannoli World were also in attendance and contributing even more peachy foods . The Peach Party demonstrated the many uses for peaches , aside from just being used for desserts . One unique peach-flavored food at the festival that proved this was the peach salsa .

“ The salsa is crisp and refreshing . You can use it as a topping on vanilla ice cream , or you can use it with chicken , fish , pork chops or tortilla chips . Today , we were offering it with goat cheese , which is a really good combination , almost like peaches and cream . Plus , proceeds go to the food bank , which is really awesome ,” David Morgan-Lolio , a resident of Hammonton , said .

Morgan-Lolio , who is originally from florida , said he notices that local festivals like the Peach Party help bring the community together .

Old-fashioned fun found at Peach Party

fun . i get to interact with the community and sell amazing products . This year , there ’ s definitely a much bigger crowd than in the past . There are a lot more kids and more families coming out and enjoying it ,” he said .

A portion of the salsa sales went directly to the South Jersey food Bank , Morgan-Lolio said .

Across the street , the eagle Theatre was open to the public , tying into Hammonton ’ s sesquicentennial birthday with a historical exhibit .

Along with peach-themed foods , drinks , contests and games , there was even a member of Peach royalty in attendance : the 2015-2016 New Jersey State Peach Queen , Victoria Hepler . Hepler , 19 , of elk Township , was crowned the Peach Queen last year at the Gloucestor County 4-H fair and New Jersey State Peach festival and is currently serving her second term . This is also her second year representing the Peach Council at the Hammonton Peach Party .

“ Basically , i wore a peach gown and got up onstage and gave a speech about what peaches and agriculture mean to the state of New Jersey and how important it is to us as a state because we are the fourth in gross production for peaches , which is amazing ,” Hepler said of the Peach Queen pageant .

The Peach Queen walked around the festival and took photos with fans , and said one of her favorite parts about attending the Hammonton Peach Party is meeting Peach Queens from years past . When asked if peaches are her favorite fruit , Hepler replied , “ They kinda have to be .”

Despite threats of rain , the weather held out for the Peach Party , and the sun beat down on the revelers as they celebrated Hammonton ’ s second favorite fruit .

“ it ’ s just a great event , and everyone has peach-themed items , i love it . i really couldn ’ t tell you what my favorite peachthemed item here was . There was peach lemonade , that was really
