BOE candidates file to run in November
BOE, from Page 1 in many areas here in Hammonton, but i enjoy the work i do for our students, parents and teachers the most... When i was first elected, i was the youngest person ever to serve at the BOE and was single with no children. Now 13 years later, i’ m married with a five-yearold daughter and a new born son who arrived only two weeks ago. Over the years working with our students, teachers, administrators and parents, i have a much greater appreciation for the role that public schools play in the community. i’ m running for re-election to ensure that Hammonton’ s schools continue the successes that i have been a key part of over the past 13 years,” Lyons said in a statement. Berenato is a retired educator.“ i have 31 years experience as a teacher. i understand the plight of the teachers. i understand that they are the mainstay of the schools... i view myself as the only watchdog on the board. i don’ t want the town to get clobbered with runaway taxes and deficits,” Berenato said.
Like Berenato, Byrnes served as an educator prior to serving on the board.
“ i am running for reelection because i see a trend that is happening in education that is positive and i want to be part a of the journey. Our kids are making pretty good strides with the ParCC testing and i want to see how we do with it going forward,” Byrnes said.
Scipione is running to keep his seat.
“ i have been there for six months. i have learned a lot. There are some things happening in the future that i want to be part of, including the selection of the new superintendent. i think, as a father of two pre-school-aged sons, it’ s important to know what is happening in our schools and to help be a force of positive change,” Scipione said. ingemi said he wants to be part of the process of hiring a new superintendent.
“ i am running for school board because i oppose the failed policies of our current board leadership. i intend to restore fiscal responsibility, improve educational quality, assure student safety, and help choose the right person to be the next superintendent. The current school board leadership has proved incapable in these areas. i am running for the one-year term because by having to fill only one seat, voters will have the opportunity to make an unequivocal statement of their desire for change with me as their choice,” ingemi said.
