OBITUARIES
Mary Anne DeStefano
Mary Anne DeStefano ( nee Straus ), 66 , of Hammonton , NJ peacefully passed away Tuesday , July 4 , 2023 at home with her loving family and friends by her side . Mary Anne was born in Philadelphia , Pa . and was a lifelong area resident who graduated from Hammonton High School in 1976 . She worked for Jamesway Department Store in Hammonton , where she met her husband , and Lenox China in Pomona until the birth of her first child . Mary Anne valued her family above all else , was always the first to arrive and never missed a family event and was the glue that connected her extended family . She left work to devote herself to raising her three boys , later spending as much time as she could with her beloved grandchildren , including many sleepovers filled with their favorite snacks . She loved having family and friends at the house , playing card games around the kitchen table and sipping tea . She was a motherly figure to her many nieces and nephews as well as many of her children ’ s friends . Mary Anne took pride in maintaining relationships with those who came into her life and was always very proud of her family ’ s achievements and successes .
She is predeceased by her parents , Henry and Mary Anne Straus ( nee Hannan ); brothers , Harry Straus and Michael James Straus ( Jeff ); and brother-in-law , Howard Macri . Mary Anne is survived by her loving husband of 44 years , Charles ; and her sons , Pasquale C . “ Pat ” DeStefano , III ( Kelly ), Dante DeStefano ( Kristin ), and Matthew DeStefano ( Kim ); her brother , John Straus ; and sisters , Theresa “ Terri ” Macri , Trudy Straus ( Doug ), Susan Petrucelli ( Jim ), Judy Friedley ( Dave ); and her brother-in-law . David DeStefano . She is the loving grandmother of Kayla Cabanero , Emma DeStefano , Collin DeStefano , Hannah DeStefano , and Maxwell DeStefano .
Relatives and friends attended her visitation on July 8 , with a Celebration of Life Service following all at the Marinella Funeral Home 102 N . Third St . Hammonton , NJ 08037 . Jacob P . Albert
Jacob “ Jake ” P . Albert , 81 of Hammonton , N . J . passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Monday , June 19 , 2023 . Jake was born in Buffalo , NY , first moving to Hammonton in 1974 , living on Passmore Ave . In 1979 , he relocated to South Florida for work , but returned to Hammonton in 1985 residing on S . Grand St . with his family since .
He was a proud U . S . Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War , achieving the rank of Sergeant . Jake was a skilled aircraft mechanic for Four Winds Services at NAFEC in Egg Harbor Township and previously at Eastern Airlines in Philadelphia , Pa . & Miami , Fla . He was an avid bicyclist , often seen pedaling out to Batsto or Weymouth Furnace . He loved riding motorcycles and was a member of the South Jersey Enduro Riders , frequently participating in rides & volunteering in clean-ups in Wharton State Forest . Jake also enjoyed camping , gardening and working in his yard and garage on his bikes .
He was predeceased by his parents , Henry J . and Monica Albert ( nee Phillips ); his sister , Judith Hassett ; and his brother , David Albert . He is survived by his devoted wife , Carol A . Albert ( nee Lakatosh ); loving daughter , Lorie Anne Albert ; two brothers , Samuel Albert and Timothy Albert ; three sisters , Dolores Byron , Sarah Jaye , Kristina Neuland ; and many nieces and nephews .
Private funeral services will be held at a later date in Elma , N . Y . at the convenience of the family . In lieu of flowers , donations may be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation at pcf . org . Arrangements entrusted to the Carnesale Funeral Home .
Paula C . Jacobs
Paula C . Jacobs ( nee DeLuca ), 92 , passed away Sunday , July 9 , 2023 . Paula was born in and raised Hammonton and graduated from Hammonton High School . She worked as a secretary for Jacobs Manufacturing , Hammonton Realty and the Hammonton Elementary School . Paula was a member of the Altar Rosary Society at St . Mary of Mt . Carmel Parish and the Associates of St . Lucy Filippini “ ASLF ”. She was a member of the Hap Brander ’ s String Band where she played the piano . Paula enjoyed canning vegetables , making homemade jellies and her amazing blueberry buckle and tomato sauce . She was also great seamstress .
She is predeceased by her husband , John D . Jacobs ; parents , Mariano and Anne ( nee D ’ Agostino ) DeLuca ; her brother , Carmen DeLuca ; sister , Gloria Taylor and brother-in-law Jules Taylor ; sister-in-law and brother-in-law , Julia and Anthony Marino ; sister-in-law , Teresa Ricca ; brother-in-law Joseph Giacoppo ; and sisterin-law and brother-in-law , Mary and Cosmo Ricca . Paula is survived by her children , Jack “ John ” Jacobs ( Ann Pinchak ) and Carolyn Jacobs ( Jake ); and her sisters , Maria Marino and Elaine Fisher ( Ron ). She is the loving grandmother to Max Maloney-Jacobs ( Katherine ), Sara Jacobs and Francesca Jacobs .

CRIME , from Page 1 under the influence of narcotics and three wax folds containing a white powdery substance , believed to be heroin , were located in a cigarette container , Friel said .
Fernandez was charged with possession of CDS-heroin , DUI , unlicensed driver , careless and reckless driving and driving while license is suspended .
Fernandez was released , pending a court appearance at Atlantic County Superior Court .
Officer Travis Hoffman was dispatched to the area of Railroad Avenue and 12th Street in reference to an erratic driver with a black Honda with a Virginia registration on July 8 at 5:53 p . m .,

Elvin Jimenes-Canales , 49 , of Hammonton , was observed with a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath and person , Friel said .
Jimenes-Canales was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated and was charged with DUI , careless and reckless driving , refusal to submit breath testing and unlicensed driver .
Jimenes-Canales was released , pending court appearance at Hammonton Joint Municipal Court .

HPD makes DUI arrests
from the vehicle walked towards Scola , stating her boyfriend pulled over because of a disagreement , Friel said .
Scola detected signs of impairment from Gilbert Figueroa , 27 , of Glassboro , N . J . Figueroa was placed under arrest and was charged with DUI and careless and reckless driving .
Figueroa was released , pending a court appearance at Hammonton Joint Municipal Court .
This report is comprised of arrests and investigations made by the men and women of local enforcement . All suspects and arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law .
