Joseph E . Martinelli Sr .
Joseph E . Martinelli Sr ., 63 , of Hammonton passed away with his loving family by his side on Wednesday , June 22 , 2022 in Cooper Hospital .
Born in Philadelphia he was a lifelong resident of Hammonton . Joe was a self-employed blueberry farmer , an occupation he truly loved . He enjoyed hunting , fishing and crabbing . Joe ’ s family meant everything to him , whether it was walking on the beach with his wife Josephine collecting seashells , or just spending time with them at Chincoteague Island ; he cherished every moment as did they . He was fun-loving , humorous , generous and always had a smile on his face . He touched the hearts of everyone who knew him and truly had a heart of gold . If you ever needed to find him , he was always with his wife or kids .
He is predeceased by his mother , and step-father who raised him , Lucetta and Charles “ Fudge ” Furgione and his father-in-law who loved him like the son he never had , Vincenzo Polizzotto .
Joe is survived by the love of his life , his wife of almost 38 years , Josephine Martinelli ( nee Polizzotto ); his children who he adored and would do anything for , Joey Martinelli Jr . and Dominique Martinelli ; his sister , Tina Baldi ( Charles Jr .) all of Hammonton ; and his two brothers , Gene Martinelli and Ralph Martinelli .
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday , July 2 , 2022 , 11:30 a . m . in St . Mary of Mt . Carmel Parish , Church of St . Joseph ’ s , 226 French St ., Hammonton . Entombment followed in Greenmount Cemetery . A viewing was held Saturday , July 2 , 2022 at 9 a . m . to 11 a . m . at the Carnesale Funeral Home , 202 S . Third St ., Hammonton , N . J . In lieu of flowers , memorial donations may be made to the Hammonton Cancer Foundation , PO Box 1066 , Hammonton , NJ 08037 .

Benjamin Costa
Benjamin Costa , 79 , of Deptford and formerly of Hammonton passed away on Thursday , June 30 , 2022 after a lengthy illness .
Born and raised in Hammonton he was a lifelong South Jersey resident . Ben was a systems engineer for several different companies , most recently for Verizon and Penn Mutual Life Insurance .
He is predeceased by his parents , Henry and Marie Costa ( nee Mento ) and his brother , Thomas H . Costa .
Ben is survived by his sister , Marie A . Costa of Hammonton and his friend and companion , Gary Kuskulis of Deptford .
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday July 8 , 2022 , 11 a . m ., in St . Mary of Mt . Carmel Parish , Church of St . Joseph ’ s 226 French Street , Hammonton , where a visitation will be held from 10 a . m . to 11 a . m . Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family . Memorial donations may be made to St . Mary of Mt . Carmel Parish , 226 French St ., Hammonton , NJ 08037 .

Thomas W . Christos
Thomas W . Christos , 69 , of Winslow Twp ., N . J . passed away peacefully on Wednesday , June 29 , 2022 surrounded by loved ones .
Tom was a 1971 graduate of Hammonton High School and respected member of Atlantic City Electric & IBEW Local 210 for 40 years . He was also a longtime member of the SALS Post 371 . He loved spending time with his family , especially in their Wildwood Crest home over the summer , and vacationing with his wife . He enjoyed making homemade wine , working in his garden and his 1965 Mustang .
He is predeceased by his parents , Thomas and Elizabeth ( nee Ordille ) Christos .
Tom is survived by his loving wife , Beth ( nee Shera ); daughters , Brandy Mellett ( Maureen ) and Daria Christos ( Frank Emery ); and grandchildren , Kayla , Autumn and Evan . Tom will be missed by his surviving siblings , Paul Christos , Julie Comunale , Judy Miller ( Scott ) and Marge Coakley ( Stephen ), along with many nieces , nephews , great-nieces , great-nephews , in-laws and amazing friends who held a special place in his heart .
A Celebration of Life will be held in Tom ’ s honor and will begin with a Tribute at 1 p . m . at Tomasello Winery on Sunday , July 10 , 2022 . All guests are welcome to share memories or prayers . A lunch buffet will be served following .

“ We had two vehicles that were burglarized by breaking windows ,” Friel said .
One vehicle had a passengerside window of a Ford Edge broken by a screwdriver and a purse was taken from within the vehicle and the other vehicle , a Hyundai , had a passenger-side rear window broken by a screwdriver and a purse was taken from that vehicle as well , Friel said .
In an exclusive update during an interview with The Gazette on
July 4 , Friel said the investigation into the local break-ins had become part of a larger investigation into similar break-ins in other communities .
“ In reference to the vehicle break-ins , the individuals were also suspects in other area incidents , and we are further investigating with other agencies to identify and locate the accused ,” Friel said .
The investigating officer is Officer Dalton Scola , Friel said .

Two vehicles burglarized at swim club

GAZETTE STAFF WRITER at Walmart
HAMMONTON — A man who allegedly shoplifted at Walmart was arrested at 11:58 a . m . on July 2 , Hammonton Police Chief Kevin Friel said .
Officer Hardick Patel responded in reference to shoplifting in the prime block of S . White Horse Pike ( Route 30 ).
He encountered Bruce Broomer , 49 , of Hammonton , who had placed multiple items in a Walmart bag and attempted to walk out of the store without paying , Friel said .
Broomer was taken into custody , transported to police headquarters for processing and was found to have an active warrant from Runnemede , Friel said .
Friel said Broomer was charged with shoplifting and was released pending a court date at Hammonton Joint Municipal Court and was released on his own recognizance on the Runnemede warrant .
Patel was the investigating and charging officer , Friel said .

“ It appears on the video that it was a Black male in a dark in color pickup truck . Anyone with any information should contact the Hammonton Police Department at ( 609 ) 561-4000 . We remind people not to leave items of value in plain view in their vehicles unattended , whether they are locked or unlocked . And your vehicles should always be locked when unattended ,” Friel said .
On June 26 , following the break-ins , the Hammonton Swim Club posted the following on Facebook ( the post was later updated on June 27 ):
“ Update : The same group hit Gloucester Twp park at 1:50pm on 6 / 25 . They target parks and gyms . Don ’ t leave anything visible in the car . Take your wallet / bag in the gym with you !
“… They have brazenly broken into multiple cars on June 25th at 5:59pm in broad daylight , stealing valuables from innocent people …
“ The perpetrators went to West Berlin Walmart and attempted to use the stolen credit cards . Please share with your friends in the Berlin / Winslow / Hammonton / Atco area . Thank you !” the Hammonton Swim Club post read .
