REVAL, from Page 1
According to the letter sent out
by Professional Property Appraisers Inc., the firm hired by the town
to conduct the revaluation of town
properties, the goal of the program
is to update all assessments to fair
market value. In order to achieve
this goal, all applicable information must be accurately collected.
“these houses should be assessed at 100 percent market
value, and right now they are assessed at 66.33 percent this year.
It is not to say that some might be
higher than others, but needless to
say, everyone is supposed to have
a fair share in the tax burdens, so
it won’t be fair and it won’t be at
100 percent. At the end of the day,

it still means that you have to meet
all the budgets. You have to meet
the county, the municipality, and
the school budget.
“So, you put them all together
and you divide all the ratables,
and you get a tax rate. If you have
more ratables, then you have less
of a tax rate. Hopefully that will
occur and everyone will meet the
criteria,” town of Hammonton
tax Assessor Mary Joan Wyatt
explained.
In July or August 2015, the tax
rate will be revaluated, according
to Wyatt. Until all the budgets are
submitted, the new tax rate won’t
be in effect.
“I have to submit the books to
the county, and everything should
be in place by february 1 of next
year. So, it doesn’t matter. the
rate gets struck every year, between July and August, when all
the budgets are in,” Wyatt said.
