for years underserving our community was always
here. We just couldn’t see the forest from the trees.
Once we stepped back and looked around at other
towns in other areas of the United States, the best
and highest use of the building revealed itself. One
morning during the trip to San Diego with my family, i decided to take a walk while everyone else was
still sleeping. as i walked down the street in Del
Coronado, i noticed boats at a marina. talking with
some fisherman at the marina, i said to them ‘wow,
that’s a nice marina building under construction.’
they said ‘that’s no marina building, that our new
town hall and community center.’ after i walked
through the building and saw the water behind it
with the boats and docks, i dreamed if only we could
have a community center like this in Hammonton,
with water and powerboats. it was when i came
home and took a ride down to the lake and stood on
the deck of the caretaker’s house that it dawned on
me
