Town council hears about SJ Gas remediation project

tree clearing and curb installation.
the cost estimate for the proposed
construction is $33,000.00.”
also discussed was the im-
provement project that will take
place at the Hammonton Wastewater treatment Plant. Members
of council met with the Municipal
Utilities Department Superintendent in relation to the replacement
of the three bay garage and office/storage area from Lincoln
Street to the Pleasant Mills road
site. the superintendent identified
three projects that will take place.
they include the construction of
vacuum truck solids dump station
pad and collection vaults, the replacement of an inoperable roof
mounted central heating system in
the Sludge Press Building with
wall mounted infrared gas fired
unit heaters and the replacement
of a utility water pressurization
system with a modern pressure
controlled variable speed pumping system. the three projects are
estimated to cost $82,000.
• Letters will be sent to property owners living within 200 and
400 feet of the Lincoln Street remediation site to notify them of
the pending work. there will be a
public meeting held at some point
during February.
• the chemical building on Lincoln Street will soon be relocated.
During the demolition of the front
cistern (circular building), an underground storage tank was discovered and will need to be
removed. arH is currently obtaining estimates for the removal
and disposal of the tank.
• Papers were submitted to the
Pinelands Commission regarding
the Boyer avenue dog park. assuming the Pinelands approves
the request; the town will be able
to move forward with the park.
• a resolution was tabled regarding the authorization of a

portation (NJDOt) “No Passing
zone” on rt. 206. NJDOt recently finished a traffic investigation and recommended that a
revision be made to the centerline
pavement markings to create a
“no passing zone” between route
30 and Union avenue for “safety
reasons.” they believe that the
project will create safer driving
conditions. Council supported the
plan and forwarded a copy to
NJDOt.
• Council approved a resolution
authorizing the acceptance of a
Green Communities Grant for the
amount of $3,000.00. they also
approved the Cruisin’ MainStreetremember Friday Nights event
for Friday, May 20 with a rain
date of May 21.
• the Hammonton Food truck
Festival will once again return for
2016. the event is scheduled for
Saturday, June 11 from 4:30 p.m.
to 9:30 p.m. a number of streets
will be closed during the hours of
3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. MainStreet Hammonton has requested
that a number of police parking
control signs be posted early in the
day to make people aware of the
closures. there will be five police
officers on hand to direct traffic
and assist with crowd control
throughout the day.
town council will hold their
next meeting on February 22.
Accident on Fairview Ave.

HaMMONtON—a two-car
accident on Fairview avenue left
two people with minor injuries,
Hammonton Police Lt. Kevin
Friel said. the accident occurred
at 4:46 p.m. on February 3, Friel
said.
Friel said both vehicles were
traveling southbound on Fairview
avenue. a silver 2007 Honda riD
was traveling down the roadway
with a gray 2004 Saturn VUe
traveling behind it, Friel said.
the Honda was stopped in traffic on Fairview avenue and the
Saturn failed to stop and struck the
Honda in the rear, Friel said.
rocio Ventura, 24, of Hammonton was issued summonses for
careless driving, failure to wear
seat belt, uninsured vehicle, and
lack of restraint or booster seat for
child under age 8, Friel said.
there were minor injuries to
both driver and passenger in the
Saturn and no injuries in the
Honda.
Friel said Officer Jason rigby
was the investigating officer.
