the advantages of having such a useful facility
right in town are endless. these days, libraries offer
so much more than just book services. One of the
most unique features is the “bookmobile.” first appearing long ago in the 1920s, the library on wheels
gives those who lack transportation access to thousands of books, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs and much
more. the beautiful Hammonton branch has paintings, study areas, accessible computers with printing
capabilities and a knowledgeable staff who is ready
and willing to help assist you with anything.
Kitty Ostrum is the manager at the Hammonton
branch. She and her staff are working hard to make
sure that 2016 is one of their most exciting years yet.
“We have a really unique program called Geek

Two new trash trucks
TRASH, from Page 1
On September 28, 2015, the town adopted resolution #107-2015 award front Load truck in the
amount of $296,123 to Bergey’s trucks inc.
On that same date, the town adopted resolution
#108-2015 award Side Load truck. the amount
was $269,410 and went to Mid atlantic Waste Systems.
“they’re definitely going to bring us into the future. i thank mayor and council for voting on that
stuff this year. these are upgrades that the highway
hasn’t had in years and they needed it. Since the cans
got implemented, it has been a tremendous plus for
the town, on both our side and on aCUa recycling
… One of the new trucks was
more because it has the front end
lift to go around to the condos and
apartments. We’ve been delivering some of the new containers,
which is another upgrade that’s
being done around the town. the
containers hadn’t been updated
for many years, and we’re doing
that as well,” Councilman Sam
rodio said.
One of the new trucks will feature a Curroto-Can. according to
their website, the Curroto-Can is
a device that has the fastest loading time of any product on the
market and delivers a 25 to 30
percent increase in productivity
over other side loaders.
Hammonton Public Works Department Head Scott rivera said
he is excited about what the new
trucks mean to the town and its
continued efforts to make things
easier for the residents.
“When the trucks are out on the
road and we’re serving the residents, we often have to do Bandaid and duct tape type repairs. if
a truck is off the road for more
than a day or so, it impacts the residents too much and trash gets
backed up. Once these two trucks
are up on the road and going, we
can take the one truck off the road
and start making repairs to it, running a system like we should be
… We now have a couple different trucks we can rotate for maintenance and wear-and-tear. it
makes everything a lot easier for
us to pick up,” rivera said.

and January 14. they’re going to discuss comic,
drawings, books and games. We will be having our
toddler story time, which we always have and is very
popular. We’re going to have Dentangle, which is a
combined creative and meditative practice of doodling in a mindful way. We’re going to serve some
herbal tea and biscuits. We have a snowman craft, a
book club for children and a book club for adults.
Both clubs meet once a month,” Ostrum said.
One of the most instructional happenings of the
year is the implementing of a course that will show
people the very basics of using email.
“We will show people how to create a Gmail account and cover the basics of sending emails, maintaining an inbox, checking your sent box and finding
out what you already sent out and how you can verify what you’ve done,” Ostrum said.
for those who are at a reading level above the children’s category but aren’t quite ready for the adult
book club, there will be a young adult book club that
Ostrum expects to continue to grow. there will be a
scrapbooking program for children that will be held
on January 30. One of the most fun and exciting new
events is the hosting of a game night for people of
all ages. for those who enjoy using their hands, the
crocheting and knitting club is the perfect way to
spend time with friends in a peaceful environment.
assuming success early on, all of these events will
run throughout the year, giving people the opportunity to attend whenever their schedules allow.
“We’re very excited about everything that’s happening. a number of these things haven’t been done
before. We’re hoping for the best,” Ostrum said.
