T he first Labor Day was on September 5, 1882 it was originally supposed to be on the 5 but 2 years later the people decided it would be the first Monday of September. It took the congress 11 years to finally make it a holiday in 1894. Nobody really knows who came up with this holiday there was evidence that it was both Peter Mcguire and Matthew Maguire. This holiday is dedicated to the social and economic
achievements of American workers. An American worker has national strength, freedom and leadership. They also celebrate for some kids and people the end of summer and beginning of a new school. They use to have big parades celebrating everyone in the work place, introducing women and men. They still have some today but not as much and not as big. There’ s parties, fairs and athletic events. Kids don’ t go to school that day.
