august 2017 Greenstone events | 7 Another successful Tour de Thornhill On The second Tour de Thornhill was held at the Central Park on Saturday, 29 July 2017. The event kicked off at 11am with the enthusiastic participants arriving early to sort out their indemnity forms and check their route. There were three routes according to age and was organised so that each race took place at a different time, allowing everyone to be involved and support the riders as they were leaving and crossing the finish line. They started with the toddler route (age 5 and under) which was around the central park. They zipped around the park in no time and came racing over the finish line to claim their participation medals and sweetie packs. This was followed by the big kids ride (6-11 years) which had a slightly longer route this year. Even with the extended route they finished in record time and enjoyed their well-deserved refreshments. The tweens (12-15 years) did the adult route this year. They said it was a tough long route but they thoroughly enjoyed it. Once again we had very tight finishes. The cycle races concluded with the adult route (16+ years). This was a route that went almost all around the estate and was both on and off road. There was a well-deserved water table, set up by H2O Bedfordview, at the end of the routes for all the thirsty riders. Everyone received a medal for participation and the top three men and woman in each age group were rewarded with bronze, silver and gold medals. The top tweens all received Go Ape vouchers, 2nd place tweens also received Oakes vouchers and 1st place tweens received vouchers from Ridgeway Cycles. The top adults all received medals and Ridgeway Cycles vouchers. The winning man received some bubbly and a floating trophy and the winning lady received a bunch of flowers and floating trophy. After the races the kiddies were entertained by Beat Parties who played many fun games with them, keeping them running around and having a ball. No one was left hungry with a variety of foods and refreshments on offer from Oakes. The Book People were also there selling their wonderful range of books and Emma & Me were selling their unique and affordable jewellery and warm winter scarves. A huge thank you to the generous sponsors who really assisted in making this event the success: Ian Boxall for the medals and trophies; Johnny at the Lakeside Shell Service Station for the sweetie packs; Lani and Leejay Carrozzo from H20 Bedfordview for sponsoring the water; Go Ape for the vouchers; Oakes for vouchers; Ridgeway Cycles for the vouchers and Anbro Properties for the marshal bibs.
