I'll admit it, as a creative type, I couldn’t wait to unleash my imagination on the one creative project I’d been waiting for all my life… my wedding!
At the age of 37 I was getting married and my fiance and I were determined to make decisions based on what made us happy, not on what others recommended or what was perceived to be sensible or the done thing. We thought about the things we really loved as we felt that the weddings we’d most enjoyed had captured the heart, soul and style of the couple – colour co-ordinated or not, and that ‘personal’ element was something that was key for us. The centuries-old Jewish traditions were also vitally important, but what my husband and I very much didn’t want was a party that followed the typical Jewish ‘wedding by numbers’ formula.
I excitedly explored books, blogs and magazines to piece together ideas and inspiration to create my perfect W-day, but to my huge disappointment I found that there wasn’t any one place that brought together
creative, original and downright super cool ideas for Jewish (and while we’re at it, Jew-ish) brides and grooms.
So I decided to start up my own website dedicated to fabulous wedspiration for Jewish weddings. SmashingTheGlass.com was born and instantly became the UK’s only Jewish wedding blog, and the only blog worldwide focussing on creative, original and unusual Jewish weddings. It aims to bring couples who are keen to make their wedding stand out from the cookie cutter crowd, a wealth of ideas through creative and innovative content, the best “real Jewish wedding” eye candy and access to the most desirable (and certainly not always kosher!) wedding vendors.
The reaction I’ve had to the blog has been monumental, and I’m so delighted that just one year on, the blog has been nominated for two Wedding Magazine Wedding Blog Awards in the ‘Best Wedding Blog Newcomer’ and ‘Best Real Life Weddings’ categories
I delight in spending all the hours of the day working on SmashingTheGlass.com together with being a mum to my baby daughter, and wife to Mr Smashing The Glass, and I couldn't be happier.
