From Abadia To You
Abadia de la Oliva is a winery in the northern part of Spain in a town called Carcastillo. Abadia was founded in 1135 and sits within beautifully rural Spanish mountains.
Abadia is known to be one of, if not the, oldest vineyards in all of Europe. Dating back to the beginning of the vineyard’s time, Abadia was home to various Catholic monks who were responsible for pressing the grapes and tending to the wine’s fermentation process—this was a normal task for the monks at this point in history.
Hundreds of years later, in 1880, the Monastery of La Oliva was declared a Historic National Monument. Since then, the land has still continued to produce some of the best that people travel from all over the world to get their hands on.
Across the street from the vineyards remains the monastery, but far fewer monks are a part of the community.
Although, Abadia still provides the worldwide wine industry with some of the finest wines.
Some of their specialties include Rosé, young red maceration, tinto roble, cosecha magna, mass and prayer wine, sweet small fruit, white Grenache and oak chardonnay.
No matter what the occasion may be, Abadia makes sure that their wines can best suit the event.
It is similar to a fairy tale story book--before your flip to the next page, your imagination takes you on a trip and you imagine what could be; but, the imagry never is as perfect, or as accurate as what truly lies ahead. Around every hidden corner there is a gem, and that is definitely true for this Spanish Vineyard.
