LITHAIOS RIVER & THE PICTURESQUE BRIDGES Through the city runs river Lithaios, a tributary of Pineios, with calm waters, picturesque bridges, verdant shores and towering green trees! According to the legend, Asclepius, the god of Medicine, was born near Lithaios (on one of the bridges his statue stands imposing). The river of “lethe” (oblivion) is certainly one of the sights of the city. Its banks are connected with ten bridges, half of which are pedestrian. The central one, which is arched and made of metal, was constructed in 1886 by French engineers and connects Asclipiou street with Iroon Polytechniou square. 13
