ΟΜΌΝΟΙΑ
Ο Ερνέστος Τσίλλερ την επέλεξε για να οικοδοµήσει δύο σπουδαία αρχιτεκτονικά
κοσµήµατα που επιβιώνουν µέχρι σήµερα, το Μπάγκειον και το Μέγα Αλέξανδρος.
Η πλατεία όπου έδινε... ραντεβού η Αθήνα, αρχικά ονοµάστηκε Πλατεία
Ανακτόρων καθώς επρόκειτο να χτιστούν τα βασιλικά ανάκτορα, ωστόσο τα σχέδια
ανατράπηκαν. Το οριστικό όνοµά της το πήρε το 1862, λόγω της συµφιλίωσης
δυο αντιµαχόµενων πολιτικών παρατάξεων που εορτάστηκε εκεί. Τον 20ο αιώνα
η πλατεία γνώρισε αίγλη από τα κοµψά ξενοδοχεία και cafés. Πρόσφατα ανακατασκευάστηκε
και το έργο ολοκληρώθηκε τον Μάιο του 2020.

OMONOIA SQUARE Ernst Ziller chose the area to construct two great
architectural jewels that survive until this day, the Mpageion and the Megas
Alexandros buildings. The square that was the former meeting point of
Athens, was originally named “Anaktoron Square” (“square of the Palace”),
as it was intended to host the royal palace, however, the plans changed. It
took its final name, Omonoia (“Concord”) in 1862, after the reconciliation of
two rival political parties, which was celebrated there. In the 20th century the
square was considered as a glorious place due to its classy hotels and cafés. It
was recently renovated and the project was completed in May 2020.
