the current one . The place names with this ending are considered as the most ancient ones in the Helladic area . The village itself , surrounded by elaborate chapels , is sparsely populated and consists of many settlements with their own parishes . Plagia settlement is built on the slopes of Mirmitzala at an altitude of about 740 meters . Here is one of the most important monuments of the wider area , the Monastery of Transfiguration of Jesus Christ (“ Metamorfosi Sotiros ”). Dendros settlement is built at an altitude of about 350 meters southwest of Vragiana , at the borders with Arta region , close to Achelous river . It hosts one of the most interesting monuments-sights of the area , the church of the Nativity of the Mother of God (“ Episkopi ”). Nechoria or Neochoria is another settlement in Vragiana , built at an altitude of about 420 meters . Very close to the settlement at Vatteri location is the one “ perataria ” structure , the manual vehicle used to pass Achelous river . Rogia , another settlement , is built at an altitude of about 900 meters , at the borders with Evrytania region . Lastly , Gribiana is built at an altitude of about 440 meters , southwest of Vragiana , almost on Achelous river , an area ideal for swimming during the summer . Gribiana was a fiefdom (“ tsiflik ”) that at initially belonged to a Turkish bey and was acquired by klepht Boukouvalas . This fiefdom , covering 600 decares , was granted by Boukouvalas to the Monastery of the Transfiguration . This is proved by the wooden triptych preserved until today in the Monastery , named “ Prothesis ( display ) of the Holy Transfiguration ”. Lastly , as for the sights of Vragiana village , the church of St . Dimitrios looming over the square of the village is of particular interest . According to data from older residents , the church was built in 1891 by craftsmen from Tzoumerka village .
