Tom was born august 27 1961, in Austin Texas and raised by his two parents, Shirley burton and Thomas David Ford. At the young age of just six, he had already begun to move furniture around his house. Not too much later, he began to judge and critique his mother’s hair and clothes. When the time came, he attended the school of Bared College at Summers Rock, but before long he had dropped out and began to study art history at New York University. In his new group of friends, he met Ian Falconer, who introduced him to studio 54 for the first time. After only a year of attending New York University, he had already dropped out to try a career at acting in television and commercials. In 1990, he was hired at Gucci. After working for them for years, he was promptly promoted to creative director of the company. Now the designer spends his time being featured on magazine covers and wowing the world with his amazing designs.

His mother remarried three times before getting the title “mentally ill."After the time with his mother, he moved to the upper west side with his grandmother in majestic on central park. He attended the High School of Art and Design and studied at the Parsons School of Design in New York. In 1991, he won an award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. The Marc Jacobs Spring 2016 advertising campaign featured Bette Midler, Bella Hadid, and Emily Ratajkowski as well as lesser known artists Milk, a contestant from RuPaul's Drag Race, as well as several runway models. On April 4, 2018, Jacobs proposed to his boyfriend, Charly DeFrancisco, with a flash mob while in a Chipotle restaurant. The flash mob did a dance to the song "Kiss" by Prince. They were married in a lavish wedding held in New York City on April 7, 2019.
