The blues, folk music, and jazz originated in America and helped new genres form. The blues and folk music helped create country music because of its southern sounds and influences. The Telegraph says that “In the 1940s, Afro-American expressions of gospel, blues and rhythm and blues converged to form rock ’n’ roll”.

Jazz music involved many new sounds that helped create new music as well. University Times notes that “From it grew other genres like soul, R&B and funk, which in turn have had their own impacts on American musical culture”.

American music helped with self-expression and independence as well. Catawiki says, “After the war, women wanted to be seen as individuals outside of their traditional daughters. Jazz provided them with an outlet.” People expressed themselves through music no matter what genre.
