The second is icon musician Madonna. She came to fame when I was just starting high school and she instantly became my role model. While I didn’t always agree with her antics, I always appreciated her business smarts and admired her drive and ambition to be herself and confront public scorn unapologetically. She burst through controversy and seemingly didn’t care about what people thought of her; she went after her goals full-throttle. I wanted to be like that. She’s a champion for gay rights and I believe her to be instrumental in confronting a lot of taboos around sexuality that helped to move us along in becoming more sex-positive and aware and away from those old shaming Puritanical views that inhibit our growth and block us from our potential. She’s still my idol after all these years. Long live the Queen!
I’m also a secret admirer (well, not so secret) of my husband Loren Michaels Harris. Though probably a little biased with his being the love of my life, I have witnessed his transformation from surviving adversity from his traumatic life as part of the foster care system growing up to now thriving in his career as a motivational speaker and influencer, musical recording artist, author, and digital marketer. He’s gone through a lot of trials and tribulations in his life and I find his resilience, strength, and perseverance a triumphant test of the human spirit. He’s pretty remarkable in my estimation.
6. What’s a typical day like for you?
Well, one could classify me as a bit of a workaholic.
