some of my friends will say, “you’re getting old;” I always answer back, “no, not old, just better.” I say that because I’ve grown up, I’ve learned some things, I’m not getting old, I’m getting better. I’m not the same know-it-all that I was in my twenties and thirties, I’ve gained some wisdom, I pick and choose my battles, I’m getting better.
These days by the age of 35, many young women have had some form of plastic surgery, trying to hold on to their youth, trying so hard not to fall into the inevitable, which surely, they will if they just keep on living. By the time many of us hit age 50, we are relegated to a rocking chair with knitting needles and yarn. That may have been my mom’s generation, but not mine!
Haven’t you heard, that fifty is the new thirty? Many of us who are at, or over that age are not ready to slow down, in fact, with this new found wisdom, we are just getting started!
Our journey through life has allowed us to grow and mature. We may still be learning who we are, but now we know who we are not. We no longer care about the gossip, nor about making mistakes. We are like gold; we have been through the fire, all the dross has been lost and we are unapologetically golden! Life’s experiences have opened our eyes to reinvention and we know there is still time for us to reach our goals no matter what they may be.
So-oo, since I belong to the fifty and older club, I decided to create a group called the Gold Shoe Society. I got so excited about the possibilities of this group that I asked two friends, (Janice Hooker-Fortman and Brenda Tucker-Jefferies), to join me.
Why the Gold Shoe Society you ask? Because gold has value, it is put through a rigorous refining process, but once it comes through, it increases in value, its worth is greater all over the world.
I believe this is how it is for most of us women. We have been through the fire and have come out as pure gold. We have learned some things; we know more about who we are, (although we
never stop learning), and we are
growing even more comfortable
