Hasselblad H6D 100C Review:
“The Hasselblad H6D 100C is a camera that
photographers dream about”
Words & Imagery By Sebastian Oakley
Hasselblad has been one of the best known names within
medium format ever since it started production and they have
always tried to push the boundaries of photography, the H6D
100C is no exception.
The H6D series is a complete re-design from the ground up
offering an electronic platform from its previous mechanical
models, which entails more communication from the digital
back to the body of the camera. Build quality is outstanding
as you would expect from Hasselblad, even down to the small
details, such as the doors on both the CFast/SD slots and
multimedia compartment having rubber seals, to keep out any
dust or moisture which you may come in to contact with while
out shooting, or the brilliant integrated battery which is also
the main grip of the camera that is quickly interchangeable by
a quick button release.
This alone is an amazing feature and makes battery swapping
a quick and pleasant process, this feature has been seen on
many previous models from Hasselblad however, we thought it
was worth a mention as this is the first time we have seen this
feature ourselves.

Shooting with this camera is any photographers dream, it
delivers outstanding image quality with an amazing 15 stops
of dynamic range, which is very forgiving if you ever under
or over expose an image, a quick adjustment in Hasselblad’s
Phocus editing software and your image is restored to how you
wanted it.
A typical RAW file (3FR format) will see an average size of
207MB, while an 8-bit TIFF produces a file size of 289MB. The
H6D 100C is also capable of producing HD video at 1920 x
1080p in H.264 format or which is more astonishing, it can
produce 4K video (3840 x 2160p) via its built-in RAW setting.
This is something we are only seeing now in DSLR cameras, so
to see this feature in a Medium Format camera is a nice touch,
especially when it uses the full sensor size to capture the video,
which in turn produces an incredible cinematic look and feel
to the footage.
Also, with the increase of behind the scenes videos becoming
more popular this gives a great option for any photographer
to capture additional video clips to pair with their images, we
must note that in both video modes you will only be able to
shoot at 25 fps.
