CORNISH BOATBUILDER PREMIERES HIGH END
MOTOR LAUNCH WITH ACCESSIBLE PRICE TAG
Words by Jilly Easterby
A Cornish boatbuilder with a burgeoning order book and reputation for building ultra-luxurious superyacht tenders for
clients from across the globe is about to unveil a customised
motor launch that is of superyacht industry standard but with
a rather more accessible price tag. Echoing the classical designs of the gentleman's motor
launch of generations past but incorporating modern luxury,
processes and technology, Duchy Motor Launches are ideal for
first-time boat owners or families with waterside homes who
enjoy cruising and relaxing.
As it commences its 21st year of building beautiful bespoke
boats, Cockwells Modern & Classic Boatbuilding is currently
adding the finishing touches to the third model in its popular
Duchy Motor Launch series – the Duchy 35 – that will premiere
at this year’s Southampton Boat Show (15 to 24 September
2017). The Duchy 35 has been created for that precise purpose but
with the ante seriously upped in terms of styl e. With a spacious
cockpit and expansive saloon to provide ample space for up to
ten day guests or a luxurious weekend berth for two, the design
also offers additional flexibility in that you can select either a
single or twin cabin layout.
Duchy Motor Launches are classically-designed, handcrafted,
semi-production vessels that are created at a creek-side HQ in
the Duchy of Cornwall by Cockwells’ skilled craftsmen whose
design flair, expertise and exacting standards are second-to-
none. “With the twin cabin layout, the Duchy 35 is a comfortable
family cruiser with the galley located in the spacious saloon
and two double berths below. But with the single cabin
layout, she becomes a luxury day boat or weekender for two,”
explains Founder and Managing Director, Dave Cockwell.
“Cockwells’ in-house team and leading yacht designer,
Andrew Wolstenholme have joined forces to create a vessel
that incorporates every conceivable comfort,” he adds. “From a
shower compartment offering generous headroom and a full-
width electric sunroof that allows you to take in panoramic
sea views from all-round windows to the well-equipped galley,
your choice of hardwood joinery, electronics and leather
seating, and features to enhance your comfort such as a gyro
stabiliser, the Duchy 35 provides all the elements of a custom-
build without the high-end price tag.”
Built in low maintenance composites, Duchy Motor Launches
can be customised to your exact specifications with a seemingly
infinite number of optional extras: from teak decks to custom
crockery, china and glassware in tailor-made stowage.
Following the popularity of the brand’s flagship, the Duchy
27 – a classic day boat or cosy weekender that offers elegant
lines, superb handling and more than a sprinkling of creature
comforts – the second model in the series, the Duchy 21 – a
stylish open day boat – was launched at last year’s Southampton
Boat Show and quickly sprang into production for a string of
discerning buyers from the Thames to the Solent and the West
Country to the Norfolk Broads.
