ACORN LAUNCHES GREEN ROOFED ‘ECO-CHIC’ HOMES AT CUBIS BRUTON IN SOMERSET DESIGNED TO MERGE INDOOR & OUTDOOR LIVING Acorn Property Group has launched Cubis Bruton in Somerset, which provides 56 contemporary designed three and four bedroom houses bristling with ‘eco-chic’ features including green roofs, timber cladding and superior insulation; with the flexible living space, bi-folding glass doors and terracing offering distinctive homes that skillfully merge the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living. Cubis Bruton is located off Cuckoo Hill on the northern side of the sought-after medieval town of Bruton, listed in the Domesday Book of 1086, and known for its modern art galleries such as Hauser and Wirth; independent schools, pretty high street and stone houses. The countryside version of London’s Notting Hill, Bruton is a highly desirable town, recently described as a magnet for lovers of art, food and fashion and an area fertile with creativity. As a result of its sophisticated lifestyle offering and good transport links Bruton attracts buyers from both the local region and locations including Bristol, Bath and London. Providing iconic architecture ensuring nature and design in harmony, Cubis Bruton was devised by highly regarded land artist Mark Merer, whose works combine architecture, landscape and sculpture to create environmentally sensitive living spaces. Merer’s Landhouse studio collaborated with multi-award winning Somerset artist Lucy Glendinning, whose sculptures and paintings look at the human form and nature. The result is stunning contemporary homes whose highly artistic design and interiors will appeal to both local buyers and commuters from cities further afield. 90 | The Gentleman Magazine “Powered by Mark Merer, Director of Landhouse who led the design concept for Cubis Bruton says: “My wife Lucy Glendinning and myself have previously lived in Bruton, and our home was an old grain mill which we converted into a modernist living space, so we know the town and have personal expertise in undertaking development there. To design Cubis Bruton we worked closely with The Bruton Trust, in charge of development in the town, and the Cuckoo Hill site provided the opportunity to create a high quality residential scheme which would also serve as a new entrance to the town. We also collaborated with Acorn who are passionate about design-led housing.” More/ 2/ Mark Merer continues: “To devise the scheme we visited and photographed the site and liaised with the local community about the type of housing they wanted. The result is homes truly integrated with the local landscape, created from sustainable materials, whose contemporary design answers the call from local people to provide homes with an exciting fresh look whose intelligent design helps to bring the environment alive.” Benefitting the local community by revitalising a redundant site and delivering much needed local housing, Cubis Bruton is built on the site of a large Victorian house and redundant horticultural centre, now replaced by a high quality residential community of three and four bedroom houses, up to 2,239 sqft in size; each with different layouts. The housing scheme is designed around courtyards, central spaces and private gardens, with bi-folding glass doors and terracing ensuring that the built form extends into the surrounding landscape. , Securing the Internet of Things”
