complement and contrast the other two – a deep, dark blue that echoes twilight
on a cloudless night.
All of these Pantone´s 2015 blues are already everywhere on Lanzarote, both
in nature and in homes, shops, restaurants hotels, pools and elsewhere. These
are colours that never get old, but this year they´re newer than ever.
Surprisingly, there´s only one green in Pantone’s 2015 palette, and it´s a pretty
bluish green as well. Lucite Green is almost turquoise – a pale, sophisticated and
yet vibrant colour. Once again, it´s perfect for Canarian living, reminding us of
crisp mint, the vivid greens of fresh cacti and the way the hillsides explode into
fresh greens after a rainfall.

The warmer shades of 2015 are also highly suitable for 2015. Toasted Almond is
one of two neutrals offered, and is one of those classic shades that you´ll see in
the dusty deserts of Lanzarote, or in the moving colours of the volcanoes. It´s
natural, and a much warmer and inviting alternative to the blinding white that is so
often found on Lanzarote. It will need contrasting shades to really work, and you’ll
need to consider texture to get the most out of it, but it´s well worth considering.
Marsala is also a warm colour, this time the shade of deep dessert wine. Like
most of this year´s colours, it´s not an instant eyecatcher, but one of those classy,
baked clay shades that will slowly win you over.
The year´s pop-out colour is Tangerine, which also featured a couple of years
ago. This is a slightly pastelised orange – easing back on the vibrant shouty
nature of other oranges, but it is bright enough to make a real splash on
Lanzarote, where the light and natural colours mean that you don´t have to
scream to make a big impact. Tangerine is perfect to add a touch of exotic
warmth and excitement to your home.
Or in contrast, you could go for Strawberry Ice – this is a rich pink that somehow
manages to retain its cool – it gives off a pastel vibe without actually being a pastel.
Of the remaining two colours, Glacier Grey is, simply, a cool neutral that we´ve
also seen many times before in the more concreted areas of the island. Grey can
work on Lanzarote, but you´ll need to support it with a commitment to minimal
design or think hard about contrast to make it work.
Finally, Custard. This is the only yellow in the palette, and its name describes it
perfectly. Of course, we´re talking about a home-made custard here, not a violentlydyed packet of Birds. The shade is matt, unassertive and yet homely and warm.
