2015 looks like Lanzarote’s year if the the Pantone colour
guide for spring is anything to go by. The hotly awaited
colour report for 2015 will influence catwalks and interiors
throughout the year, and many of the colours that are the
hottest this year couldn’t be more Lanzarote-oriented.
T
he overall palette of 10 colours seems at first sight a little more subdued
than in previous years – there are many tasteful blues and neutrals, and
just one or two eye-popping shades. However, this is just reflecting a
general tendency to “unplug”. We live so much of our lives being
bombarded by the super-saturated colours on our mobile and tablet
screens that sometimes it feels we are literally being candy-crushed to death by
sensual overload.
There´s always been a reaction to this, of course, with the muted tones of Instagram
already having been adopted by hipsters for years, but this year is not so much about
a natural on-screen experience as life away from the screen altogether.
n Kind of Blue
Blue dominates the Pantone palette for 2015, with three distinct and equally attractive
shades. First, there is aquamarine – a light blue that reflects the cloudless skies that
are part of almost every day on Lanzarote, as well as the oceans that surrounds our
shores. It´s cool, classy, elegant and one of those colours you can see everywhere on
this island. It´s also mild and unassuming enough not to dominate.
Scuba is deeper and more vibrant, a medium-shade blue that remains cool while
leaping right out at you. It’s the sort of shade that hints at sub-tropical oceans, blue
lagoons and pure pleasure.
