RACE TO SCOTLAND
BGGA student-athletes David Xu and Maria Federowycz
had the distinct honor and privilege to play some of the
world’s greatest, top-ranked golf courses as part of the
IJGT’s Race to Scotland over spring break. Tournament top
finishes and a point system earn students the opportunity
to be considered for the trip abroad. Students played
Archerfield Link’s Fidra and Dirlton, Gullane, North Berwick
and The New Course at Saint Andrews. The students were
chaperoned by BGGA’s Senior Coach Drake Edmond and
had an incredible experience.
and experience its culture.
I enjoyed trying out
Scotland’s food as well
as adapting to its chilly
weather. I also really liked
how we got to explore
Gullane and Edinburgh.
This way I got to see the
rural side of Scotland as
well as the urban side.
My favorite thing about
the trip has got to be
playing a new course each
day. One day I faced fast
greens and the next day
slow. Playing a different
course each day let me witness the variety of styles which
Scotland has to offer and provided a new challenge each
day.” - Maria Federowycz
“It is a really good experience to play in Scotland and l am
thankful for having the opportunity to come. My favorite
thing in Scotland is the way people play golf. You need to be
creative and good at controlling your ball flight in Scotland.
I like it because it isn’t the way l play in Florida. Golf seem
more interesting here.” - David Xu
“Race to Scotland was a great way to spend my Spring
Break. It gave me the opportunity to visit the home of golf
