Flashback Friday (Night Live)
ack in July, OCDE was awarded a Youth-Focused Alcohol
and Other Drugs (AOD) Prevention Services Program through their Friday Night Live and Club Live Programs. The program prevents alcohol use among youth under 21 years of age by: 1) providing youth-focused prevention services to students ages 8-18 in Orange County schools; and 2) providing training for adults who facilitate after school/school-based youth engagement and prevention services.
Funding provides technical assistance, training, and support to advisors and students as Friday Night Live (high school); Club Live (middle school); and Friday Night Live Kids (grades 4-6) clubs are established and sustained at their school sites. There are currently over 30 chapters throughout the county. The California Friday Night Live Partnership (CFNLP) was developed in 1984 in Sacramento by the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs (ADP), now the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS).
It began as a pilot program dedicated to reducing the number of deaths and injuries caused by teen motorists driving under the influence of alcohol and other drugs. During the first years of the program the youth involved were organized into high school-based student action groups, and later renamed FNL Chapters.
