The Front Bottoms - Tour Diaries Sept-Oct 2013 | Page 3

Saturday 14th September – Southampton > Heathrow > Pontefract Tour starts tomorrow in Sheffield. The band decided it would make most sense to fly in a day early to relax and get their shit together before playing twenty-two shows in a row across the United Kingdom and Europe. Jimmy, a friend from home, was kind enough to drive me to Heathrow Airport so I could meet Adam, and in turn meet the Front Bottoms, and Allison Weiss, who would be joining us on the UK leg of the tour. I’d listened to her full length on bandcamp and really got into it so I was stoked to be seeing her play a bunch of shows, and excited to meet her. Arrivals and departures at terminal 3 in Heathrow famously sucks a huge bag of dicks. Jimmy pulled up at the drop off point and I had just enough time to grab all my stuff from his car before a security guard moved him on. We hugged it out and he disappeared off into the distance. I knew Adam was close anyway, so I walked to the smoking area, lit up and waited. There is literally nowhere to park up a transit van, so when I got the call from Adam I made my way as quickly as I could. Accidentally leaving a record that belonged to a friend on the bench in my haste. We drove around in circles for a while keeping a keen eye on the arrivals exit hoping to spot a familiar face or two. Alas, this didn’t happen, so Adam suggested I go into the terminal and have a scout about whilst he searched for somewhere to park up and join me. Shortly after Adam parked the van Allison’s plane landed. We introduced ourselves and made small talk, and waited for the rest of the partly who were not far behind. Soon we were on the road to Pontefract, beers in hands, catching up and excitedly speculating on the days ahead. This was going to be a good tour. "Our UK/Europe tour started today with Allison Weiss. We left from Newark NJ at 4am, we aren't the bunch for waking up early but everyone was very excited to get on the road. The airplane food was pretty good this flight, Brian watched a Freddie Mercury documentary and I watched Wreck it Ralph. Ciaran's screen didn't work the whole flight. It was nice to land and reunite with Adam and Paul (tour manager and merch).” – Mat Uychich
