The Front Bottoms - Tour Diaries Sept-Oct 2013 | Page 10
Wednesday 25th September - Southampton (The Joiners/Secret Houseshow)
Southampton is my hometown so I was especially excited for tonight's show. We drove straight from
the London show to my house. Everyone had somewhere comfortable to sleep.
We did very little until it was time to go to the venue. I occasionally work at The Joiners so it was
interesting being on the other side of coin. We loaded in, got everything set up and then took the
van back to the house. We intended to leave all the gear in the venue; there was no chance Adam or
I would be driving after this show.
Tonight would also be Allison's last show with us and mark the halfway point for the entire tour. It
had been great having Allison along and it was a shame she couldn't join us in mainland Europe.
The venue filled up pretty quick. My parents came to the show to hang out with my friends and
meet the band. Mum drove; Dad and I hung out on Merch and got drunk. Young Attenborough
opened the show, who are one of my favourite UK punk bands, Rich Mandell, a local, played second,
followed obviously by Allison and then The Front Bottoms. The Joiners was so hot. Mat described it
as the second hottest show he'd ever played. They played in front of a super excited crowd; the last
time they had come to Southampton was with The Menzingers last year. Some asshole fan took
Brian's tuning pedal from the stage as a show memento, so we would have to buy another one in the
morning. Pain in the ass.
We packed down and went straight back to mine for the houseshow. Allison and Brian told me to
write out their setlists for them and that I did. I included a Katy Perry cover on Allison's set. Front
Bottoms played some really old songs and a Mountain Goats cover. We then got stupid drunk and I
passed out on my bed with my balls out. There are currently at least 11 photos of my scrotum on
Brian's phone.
