While the death penalty is not a fully effective solution for violence and crime, it IS a measure that serves to diminish the number of prisoners. Especially , if it is used in countries with prison overcrowding like Colombia, taking into account the cost of each prisoner for the state and it produces social problems for the same prisoners. Also, the people do not deny that this penalty puts a preceding for serious crimes such as the violation of children. However, more than see it as method to execute and to avoid the crimes, it must seen as a tool of population control.

We cannot risk the security and control the high rates of overpopulation and prison overcrowding, for some people who believe that they are saints and gods with the power to decide over the others because for them that is “immoral”. This is the reason because many politicians dread to take action on the measure, even, they create laws and steps that hinder an adequate debate about this issue. We have a tool in the death penalty , we can use it or not.

The death as a tool

Colombia and Argentina increased the investment in military forces

Colombia and Argentina increase military spending according to the report of the Institute of Peace (Colombia y Argentina incrementan gasto militar según informe del Instituto de la Paz, web, 2017). I can’t believe that in countries like these the government rises the money use for their military forces. They can invest this money in more important services like education or health.

I don’t agree with this rise. Colombia has had 7 military stations from the USA during 10 years, and the excuse for having them is the fight against narcotraffic but, last year in Colombia, the national government and the FARC found that more than 54 young people were sexually abused by American soldiers.

Colombia gave its point of view about arms supply in Venezuela, it said: “supply the society with arms is very dangerous” however, Colombia increased the investment in its military forces, with this point of view and the acts of Colombia, all people can think that it is a little hypocrite.

I think that Colombia and Argentina have the necessary armament and they can use the money in things that are better. I consider that arming more these countries is something bad because it strengthens a service that is not so good.

Why death has currently many conditions? is death penalty really not efficient? According to the article (Insistir en la pena de muerte: ¿una obstinación bélica?) published on April 22, the death penalty is associated with a bellicose thought. For me, the only bellicose though is not thinking about the multiple benefits of death penalty, and really the only impediment to implement it is political reasons. Also, people should not see it as a “satanic” method.
