Miles and Milestones:

20 Years of the New York City Marathon

From pounding the pavement to ringing cowbells, our community has brought energy to— and created impact at— the New York City Marathon for two decades. Today, more than 2,000 Team Fox athletes have raised $ 17 million for Parkinson’ s research.

2005: The First Year
A team of 22 athletes laced up their shoes, pinned on their bibs and set out to run the NYC Marathon for MJFF for the first time. Together, they raised $ 70,000 for Parkinson’ s research, proving what’ s possible when a community comes together.
2006: Team Fox Makes Its Marathon Debut
The first official Team Fox NYC Marathon team hit the ground running. Among them was MJFF staff member Veronique Enos Kaefer. Before the race, she wrote:“ For me, it feels appropriate to run and run and run— to use my body to MOVE, to defy Parkinson’ s with the thing it affects.” After crossing the finish line, she reflected:“ I find it difficult to describe my experience in other than the vagaries of a beaming smile and the word wow. I loved this marathon, every minute.” Nearly 20 years later, she’ s still on staff at MJFF, carrying forward that same spirit of action and belief.
