Of course there is more to this then just having the right equipment with you. It is always best practice to know where you are going to be fishing. If at all possible fish your location during the day in the light before you fish it in the dark. You will have a better working knowledge of the area which will lead to fewer surprises. I always make sure to tell my wife where I will be launching from and a round about time as to when I should be done as well. This is also good practice to make sure others are a where as to your location and time frame if the worst should happen. Of course with good planning and thinking ahead your fishing trip in the dark will be an enjoyable one like mine was.
