Fools Baits have become a staple in my tackle box, and my confidence in these baits is high. They are so simple, they can be fished in so many different ways and in so many different situations. Here is a discussion of some of the setups you can use to fish these baits in both 3.5” and 5” Hawg Seekers. All of these methods have been proven to work, try them out and see for yourself how hot these baits have become.

Jighead

When fishing the Hawg Seekers on a jig head it is very important to select the proper size weight and hook shank. If the jighead its self is too large the barbs that are meant to keep the bait in position will eventual rip the bait open, and if the shank of the hook is to long you will rob yourself of fish catching action.

We recommend a darter head style jighead. Big Hammer makes a darter head jighead that we highly recommend. The reason we like this darter head so much is that does not fall straight down in the water column; it tends to make and S pattern as it falls and sometimes will do a complete swirl on the drop, and due to this non vertical fall a strike on the drop is not uncommon.

Toss the bait up alongside structure (rocks, docks, boats, pillars, drop offs, weeds, buoys, shadows, corners of walls, over hangs) and wait for the bait to sink once the bait has hit the bottom start working it immediately. When rigged up on a jig head the Hawg Seeker can be either given slight twitches to give the tail of the bait a nice light flicker, or it can be given a sharp pop which will cause the tail of the bait bend almost completely over and touch the jig head and

thanks to the darter head discussed before it will have an unpredictable fall. Perform these twitches or pops while only reeling in enough line to keep slack out of the line. A bite will feel as if you got snagged up, so it will feel like you bait just hit a wall. When that happens set the hook, for a quick second you will not know if it’s a fish or snag but soon enough the line will become alive and the fight will be on.

Drop Shot

Just like all other techniques hook selection is very important; however with the drop shot you have three options for setting up the bait. The first is the “Nose hook”, weedless rig and wacky rig. All rigs have their time, place, advantages and disadvantages.
