Events Manager Charlotte Bourchier and the Ball
Chairs Alice Deakin and Momoka Takaya threw an
unforgettable night with theme park rides, live mu-
sic, Vice Master Peter Swift and indoor mini golf to
name a few of the attractions. HLMs this year went
to Conor Pey, Steve Tatlow, Milly Esmund, Frazer
Levett, Kathryn Stockton, Izaak Beck, Isla Mackenzie,
George Stanbury and Ben Firth.
As has become a near inevitability in recent years,
Grey once again had an impressive showing in
sports of all variety. Women's Hockey had another
unbelievable season, winning both the league and
the cup. Impressively, they did not lose a single
game and scored a stunning 65 goals in their cam-
paign while conceding only 3. Grey Cricket won the
Indoor Cricket Championship as well as the outdoor
T20 Cricket Championship. This led them to win
the Team Durham College Sport Team of the Year,
an incredible achievement with hundreds of teams
in the running. In addition, both the Darts A Team
and Mixed Lacrosse A team won their respective
trophies. In football, Grey A won the Men's Football
Trophy between all 84 teams in the University and
the C Team broke the record for the most goals
scored in Division 3 and the second most goals
scored across all college football teams this year.
Women's Football also won this year's Festival of
Sport and their league.
All of these performances meant that we finished
2nd in the College Points Table, annoyingly behind
the larger Collingwood. Luckily, we're nicer than
Collingwood, so we can also give ourselves another
moral victory!
The Executive Committee, student officers and
College staff have all made my job incredibly easy
this year and ensured the ongoing successes of the
students. I'm incredibly grateful to everyone for all
their help. I'm sure that "Happy" Henry Folds will
have a great year as President and look forward to
returning to Grey to see how he improves the JCR.
Most importantly, Grey has remained a welcoming
and wonderful home to all its students. The new
freshers year brought another hoard of fun, intel-
ligent and personality-filled adults to the College
who have already begun to contribute to its atmo-
sphere. The future certainly looks bright for Grey.

2017 to 2018 has been a wonderful year for the
Junior Common Room, with continued sporting
success and Fountains Hall about to reopen to help
further develop the artistic and musical residents of
Grey.
The year began with Head Frep, RuairĂ Brogan,
throwing a great Freshers' Week with the help of
a wonderful team of Freshers' Helpers, involving
inflatables, a hypnotist and a Beyonce tribute act.
Events this year continued to be the highlight of the
calendar, with Informal Ball brightening up first term
and the annual Charity Fashion Show raising thou-
sands of pounds for the Great North Air Ambulance
Service in second term.
President's Guest Night was held at Ramside Hall
Hotel featuring a jazz band and a live showing of
an ex-Grey student on the ITV show 'Take Me Out'
(whether that is an achievement or a disappoint-
ment can be subjectively viewed). The Excellence in
Leadership award went to Harry Chetwode for his
two years captaining the Rugby club and Unsung
Hero went to the two managers of the Technical
Committee, Isla Mackenzie and Marvin Wong, for
working at each JCR event and ensuring that they
ran smoothly. Cricket, Women's Football and Choir
also received awards.
The post-exam celebrations began with Grey
Day. While the day saw some rain, it did nothing
to dampen the spirits of our students who stayed
throughout to boogie in the downpour. The apex
of the JCR's social calendar, Phoenix Ball, changed
venue for the first time in five years to Derwent
Manor. It was a great success and had the highest
attendance of any ball with over 900 attendees. The
