Rowing at the
European
University Games
DUCK Expedition to
Costa Rica
Eleanor Kinsman: The trip had a
massive impact on me and my
outlook in every-day life. I am so
appreciative that the trust en-
abled me to pursue this oppor-
tunity. I thought that I was fairly
environmentally conscious before
the expedition, but now I feel so
passionately about it I know it will
affect so many of my choices in
the future: companies I am willing
to work for depending on their
environmental status, the way
I approach the subject with my
peers and little every day choices
that I now know make such a dif-
ference. I will continue to use the
knowledge and awareness gained
in Durham to encourage the
people around me and personal-
ly make choices that will make a
difference.
Ashleigh Mason: I was selected
to row at the European Univer-
sity Games this summer where
my crew earnt a bronze medal
in the women's lightweight quad
category. I represented the GB
Universities Rowing Team as well
as Durham University Boat Club.
This incredible experience would
not have been possible without
the generosity of the Grey Col-
lege Trust.
Trip to Kostroma and
Moscow
Olivia Wilde: In June 2018, I trav-
elled to Kostroma in Russia with
three other Durham students to
work in a summer school, teach-
ing English to children between
the ages of seven and 16. Finally,
a huge thank you to the College
Trust. I am so grateful for your
generous donation towards my
trip, without which I would not
have been able to go. Not only
did the experience give me a
chance to improve my level of
spoken Russian, it gave me an
insight into Russian culture and
daily life that I would not have
gained elsewhere. I found the
teaching very rewarding and
enjoyable as well. Many thanks
again!
