Student Stories Grey College Trust Awards 2018 DUCK Borneo Expedition Olvia Douglas: In the summer of 2018 I took part in an expedi- tion to Borneo with the Durham University Charities Kommitee (DUCK), involving volunteering for six weeks. My time was spread between working at Project Orang-utan (Borneo) and Fuze Ecoteer (Perhentian Islands), two separate conservation charities. Whilst in Borneo we worked with the charity on rehabilitation for orang-utans, and on the con- servation of turtles and beaches while in the Perhentian Islands. Overall, I believe the expedition was very worthwhile and gave me a better understanding of how to be more sustainable and environ- mentally friendly. Working with Refugees in Athens Katherine Carter: Thanks again to the Grey College Trust for their financial support of my two- week trip to Athens, Greece to work with the refugees alongside Operation Mobilisation. I learnt a lot, about myself and those around me, as I stepped out of my comfort zone teaching En- glish to refugees and feeding the homeless. 17 Operation Wallacea: Indonesia Laura Cutts: This programme was an amazing opportunity to get involved in current and ongoing science and solidified my decision to pursue a career in conser- vational research. I have con- tinued my diving qualifications and found something I am very passionate about, as well as now being group leader for Durham University for Operation Wallacea. I couldn't have done this without the Grey College Trust.
