2. KRYPTONITE
‘Typically used to describe something that can depower and kill someone’
Kryptonite. We all have a kryptonite. Even if we cannot come and kill ourselves there’s a lethal thing that
can kill us. It’s Depression.
Let me try and explain Depression.
Depression is a deep dark state of nothingness. It’s literally a state of darkness where everything seems
darkened – faces, thoughts, the physical environment, etc. It’s like a film put over your soul that doesn’t
really let you see anything the way it is. Like a pit 6 feet deep you cannot come out of, even if you tried
and had a ladder. Sometimes depression is like being underwater and having an oxygen tank. As long as
you breathe in through the tank you’d be fine but eventually, you’d get tired of the stress of breathing
through a tank and with no rescue coming you’d just want to take off the gas mask (before you eventually
run out of oxygen.
Depression is a condition where you can’t decipher or think correctly. That is, it’s a state in which you
know the truth but can’t believe it – it’s like an alternate reality. You’d know you’re loved and blessed and
fearlessly and wonderfully made, but in the now it would be hard to believe.
I’m trying to be vivid and as wide as possible because I am aware that depression varies from person to
person and one person’s experience is definitely different from the others but I’m sure every depressed
person has felt some of the above-listed sensations.
Depression is a kryptonite of our souls. It’s the one thing the enemy knows he can use to ground us. Be-
fore I go further I must also say Depression is Spiritual. I will further talk on this in the next chapter.
