So now I live with the confidence that there is nothing in the universe with the power to separate us
from God’s love. I’m convinced that his love will triumph over death, life’s troubles, fallen angels or dark
rulers in the heavens. There is nothing in our present or future circumstances that can weaken his love.
There is no power above us or beneath us – no power that can be found in the universe that can dis-
tance us from Gods passionate love, which is lavished upon us through our Lord Jesus, the anointed
One!”
Romans 8:38-39 TPT
The message here is powerful. Nothing can separate us from God’s love. Whatever the trouble even the
devil – the passion translation clearly says ‘fallen angels’ – God’s love makes us invincible. Hold this
thought.
Paul also writes a whole chapter about love in 1 Corinthians 13. After listing the qualities of love, in verse
13 he boldly declares, “And now these three remain – faith, hope and love but LOVE is the GREATEST gift
of all”. Hold this thought too.
In Galatians 5:22-23, Paul lists the fruit of the spirit. Love is actually highlighted as the father of every oth-
er part of the fruit of the spirit – joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and
self-control.
How do these thoughts connect? Love is the law of the universe. When we remain secure in God’s love
and remind ourselves that nothing can separate us from God’s love, the same love births in us HOPE and
PATIENCE (perseverance) that carries us through our times of despair and gives us PEACE. Reminding our-
selves of and consciously remaining in God’s love gives us hope and carries us through depressing sea-
sons.
I learnt a new practice at Bible Studies Fellowship two years ago. We were asked to rewrite Romans 8:38-
39 with our own words and it has been a lifehack since. I’ll give you an example:
“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor Nigerian government nor societal pressures, nor my
past mistakes nor fear of the future, nor demonic powers, nor emotional highs nor emotional lows, nor
(add any number of things), will be able TO SEPARATE us from the LOVE of GOD that is in CHRIST JESUS
OUR LORD”
Remember my chapter on replacing bad thoughts with the truth? I recite something like this to myself
whenever I feel myself beginning to despair. I replace the variables with my circumstances and say it till I
believe it because nothing can separate us from God’s love and God’s love is the faithful force that en-
sures that we will be okay whatever life throws at us – even death cannot separate us from God’s love.
