7. THE ULTIMATE – LOVE
Countless philosophers, thinkers, theologians, novelists and about everybody that has existed on the sur-
face of the earth has had something to say about love. Love is almost as important as water and is a re-
curring topic of discussion in many circles.
This isn’t any surprise considering that love is one of the strongest forces in the Universe. Love is not just
a force – love is a person the most powerful in history that is the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus Is love. Jesus is
God and God is love. Love was birthed when God created man in his image and declared that Man was
good. Love is the reason God hasn’t and won’t destroy mankind. Love is that element that has averted
thousands of divine and man-made disasters.
Love is very central to the nature of God, so much that God himself declares that he is love. Love is the
only explanation for why a King would come down and die on a cross, to cross out all our offences and set
us free. Love is why God’s grace remains sufficient and with all the evil everywhere, God has not de-
stroyed us. Love is… I could go on and on explaining the acts of love but I want to make a point about love
and how it relates to depression and our trust in God.
God loves us and this love is constant, faithful and unending. This love is not dependent on what we do –
it is an unconditional love as is God’s grace and Mercy which all flow from his love. Countless examples in
scripture and history have pointed to it. God’s love is also our insurance and coverage. Paul understood
this and wants us to understand it too. Romans 8 ends with very bold proclamations about our security in
God’s love. Paul says in those verses,
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the
future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to sepa-
rate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39 NIV
I'm absolutely convinced that nothing…nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow,
high or low, thinkable or unthinkable--absolutely nothing can get between us and God's love because of
the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.
Romans 8:38-39 MSG
