Feral : What level of fitness is required before starting a Calisthenics program ?
Simone : Level : Couch Potato or extreme adventure athlete we don ’ t mind !
Andre : Because of the nature of body-weight training , there really is no physical prerequisite . Your current level of fitness is fine , this is your start . All you need is to be honest with yourself , admit where you are , your weaknesses and strengths , and before you know you will be performing exercises you never would have imagined was possible !
So , more important than your fitness level , is an open mind and a willing heart .
Feral : Ok then . So which are your three essential exercises you do every day to keep surf fit and why ?
Andre : Ah , that ’ s easy ! It has to be 1 ) the push-up , 2 ) the pull-up , and 3 ) the handstand .
The push-up keeps your shoulders and chest strong , making for a clean and quick pop-up onto your surfboard . Every surfer is intimately aware of the push-up , whether they know it or not , as we perform this every time we stand on our boards . But having a strong push-up helps to create a smooth , strong pop-up .
The pull-up has to be the greatest back-building exercise of all time . Not only will a strong back help with paddling power and speed , it also gives the surfer a strong core to weather what the wave is throwing their way .
Finally , the hand-stand teaches us about balance , and how to utilize small movements to maintain balance . It also creates a strong body
