There was loads to see as well as the tractors, including an old steam baler, vintage wagons and even a showman caravan. Much food and ale were consumed. A special big thank you goes to Simon Watkins for providing the generators free of charge. Steven was keen to look after all the vintage tractor drivers and provide their food, Haigh’s Farm Shop at Mirfield provided luscious beef and ham sandwiches, pork pies and sausages rolls, fifty of each and they wouldn’t let Steven pay for them! The attendance on the day was excel- lent, 1700 car parking tickets were sold; the overall attendance was around 4000, which is amazing for a first event. These numbers meant that there will be around £7000 pounds to be split between Kirkwood Hospice and The Yorkshire Air NUT & BOLT STOCKISTS Ambulance, which is the figure Steven had in mind. He did say that if it went well it would be an annual event – so there you have it, planning has already started for 2020, with people already committing to come again. Farmers Mart will be doing show preview for as well to support it, making it an even bigger event. I asked Steven if there are any changes planned, “ Yes, I think we will all have walkie talkies so we can keep in touch better, also we will have a marquee for people to shelter in should it rain again” – Yes, forgot to mention that the heavens did open late in the day, so after the beer tent was filled to capacity it did mean some people went a little early. All in all, a fantastic day was had by all, Steven and family were justifiably proud of themselves. So, here’s to a great 2020 Tractor Fest!
