72 SIROMER TRACTORS who has built both the 25 and the 40 horse- power models. If you ring for a part, advice or one of those bits that does …. It will be Helen you will most likely talk to, and she’ll know exactly what you mean. ‘You have to know your stuff as people ring with a prob- lem and often describe things differently.’ The Business continued to grow and de- velop in the following years with the family visiting the factory in China each year to not only to be entertained but positively encouraged to suggest improvements and developments to this remarkable tractor. But as so often happens there come a time for a business to be tested. Nobody expected what would happen in January 2017, their first day back after the xmas break. A phone call came into Jeff at 3am in the morning. There was a fire in the main building! As it turned out it was a space heater that was on permanently upstairs to keep the parts area at a constant temper- ature. The heater had arced and started a fire. Not large initially, when Jeff got there the Fire Brigade were already there, they had been into the building and already dragged a large bench outside. The watch commander asked Jeff what was inside, he informed them no gas bottles or any flam- mable materials, however the commander said he wasn’t sure it was safe for his men to go in and incredibly said they had to let the fire burn? This utterly flabbergasted the family who were all there by this time. To add insult to injury the firemen promptly sat down on the salvaged bench and watched, eating their own bacon sandwiches. The frustration and sheer anguish for the family to be told they had to watch 18 years hard work go up in smoke was a terrible blow that left them all numb for a long time after. They do say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Jeff got the three of them together and asked what they wanted to do. Despite the anger and upset it was a no OCT/NOV 2018 • farmers-mart.co.uk brainer, no way could they let it go. They also say that every cloud has a silver lining. Well thank God for Jeff’s technical knowhow and IT skills, as the the whole business was BACKED UP IN THE CLOUD! Without this they couldn’t have carried on. So, without further ado they went to Curry’s and bought 5 new computers’ set them up back home and A DAY LATER it was business as usual near enough! It was a long wrangle with insurance companies and planners but now everything is in place and early 2019 the new building will rise. In the meantime, all the other existing units have been adapted and even new offices built inside one of them which in time will provide a rather posh canteen for the workshop staff and a dedicated customer area. Louise is now steadily taking over the day to day running of the business something she is extremely well placed to do as she has built the tractors from scratch, visited the factory on numerous occasions with Kath and Jeff and is an economics graduate from Lancaster university. Just like Kath she knows the business and products inside out to last nut and bolt so to speak. What came across when I met with Kath and Louise is their dedication and absolute passion for these Gem machines. They are supported by an excellent team of technicians Ashley Whittaker – (Work- shop Foreman) Jake Whittaker –( valeting and build up equipment) Norman Preece ( PPI with 50 years’ experience) Chris Dixon – (engineering mechanic). The SIROMER tractor doesn’t have any competition for the vast range of New tractors large and small in the market place only second-hand and why would you buy second-hand when you can have new at the same or better price. The SIROMER range start from as little as £6500 for a 25 HP model right up to now a75 HP model that comes now complete with Cab at £19,500. All models as I’ve said before are simple and easy to maintain and aren’t expensive for parts. There is a enourmous selection of parts in stock to keep you up and running and again as said before they can train all owners to do the servicing themselves if required. The largest models with Cab come ready built from the factory as the kit would be far too large. Siromer’s are ideal for smallholdings, equestrian, Farms of all sizes – they are marvellous yard scrapers and ideal for all hedging, topping, and flailing. The beauty of the entire range is their manoeuvrability. If you have tight spaces to negotiate either in the yard or on the land or estate a Siromer is a must. In these days of high fuel prices and focus on the environment Siromer’s provide huge savings on fuel cost and consumption. It gets even better, imagine every job the larger tractors do Baling, ploughing, hedge trimming, hole boring, bale and muck shifting, you name it there will now be an attachment to do the job – Ask and the team and they’ll have the answer for you. Louise is continually looking at adding new and better attachments to the already large range. There is also a nationwide network of 15 dealers across the country and they’re always looking for more. There are many examples of the diversity of the Siromer from Boxford Suffolk Farms who grow fruit for Copella fruit juices have eleven Siromer tractors. They buy 2 new tractors every year! Oak Dene Farm - Ryeland Sheep Breeder, Siromer 354E. “We’ve been very busy of late moving over 100 bales of haylage, in addition to the tractor we have a Topper, Bale Spike, Front Loader and we’ve just purchased a Harrow and a Roller. We’re very pleased with the quality, together with the service we get from Siromer and in the coming months we’ll be putting it all to good use for general farm and field mainte- nance.” Alisdair Moss Oak Dene Farm. There are many more examples on the main website www.siromer.net. What a pleasure to meet Kath Louise and the Team, all dedicated to the business, their customers, each other and happy in their work. We wish them continued suc- cess and will be revisiting SIROMER for the unveiling of the New Building.
