Proud to be suppliers to Siromer Tractors
Previously they had built the tractors up
themselves prior to delivery. A Welsh farm-
er arrived and promptly stated that he was
of the firm belief he could do a better job of
assembly than the company team. A light
bulb moment! Why not have the Siromer
available for sale in Kit form for customers
to build? The plan was now underway
to make them available in Kit form and
customers could build the tractors them-
selves. To do this a manual was needed,
Kath picked up the Mantle and produced a
16-page manual which she submitted to the
extremely helpful Health and Safety exec
in Preston who were all too keen to get in-
volved as construction and agriculture were
then as now the two utmost industries for
industrial accidents. The manual came back
with all the whistles, bells and regulations
added and was now 60 Pages! All this was
done at no charge which was a huge help.
Who would have thought this would
have made such a difference, but it did,
business exploded so to speak! All manner
of people wanted to purchase tractors in
kit form, from Farmers to smallholders to
estate managers to landowners, some even
buying them as presents! WOW. there were
even tractor parties with groups of people
building them. That is one of the beauties of
the SIROMER, its simplicity – You can see it-
build it and Repair it and now service it. Yes,
customers are now trained to do their own
servicing if required.
With the business taking off very quickly,
Jeff dragged Kath into the firm to manage
the workshop and sales whilst he designed
and developed the IT system and ran the
nuts and bolts of the business side. Lou-
ise who was well on with her way to an
Economics degree at Lancaster was already
looking at different options, when Jeff
suggested she change her plans sharpish
and join the family business which she duly
did. As I said before quickly learning how to
build up a tractor which in the early days it
was Jeff, Louise and one mechanic. Louise
can remember building and delivering a
tractor on XMAS EVE!
Another feature of this close-knit Team
at Siromer is that EVERYONE has built up
a tractor from crate to driveaway. Ear-
ly on Kath, being ever so keen to know
everything about the business learnt how to
build one, likewise when Louise joined she
also got stuck in. This has been followed up
by Helen Noble who works in the office,
