6,500GNS WITHERSDALE COW &
CALF TOP NEWARK CLUB SALE
Bulls sell to 5,000gns for Tomschoice Hurricane.
A sale on behalf of the East
Midlands and North West Midlands
& North Wales Limousin Clubs
held at Newark on 5th October
2013 saw females dominate with a
number of high-class cow-and-calf
outfits the pick of the trade.
Heading the price list at 6,500gns
was the 2008-born third calving cow
from Darren Wharton, Suffolk. This
was Withersdale Dido, a daughter of
the French sire Salomon and out of
Calrossie Ibelle, a Carthorpe Bruno
daughter. She sold with a Wilodge
Fastrac bull calf, Withersdale Isaac, at
foot and back in-calf again to Fastrac.
Taking her home were Richard & Judy
Fountaine, Beachampton, Bucks for
their Calverton Herd.
Following her at 6,000gns was
Bankdale Countess, an August 2007born third calver consigned by William
Bird. Bred by Gordon Wilson, she is by
Oslo and is out of Princesse, a Nickel
daughter, and mother to Bankdale
Alice, dam of this summer’s show
stopper, Foxhillfarm Gracie. This one
sold to AH Booth, Aston, Sheffield for
his Sevengun prefix.

Making 5,500gns when joining the
Gascoines Herd of Messrs Gascoine,
Southwell was Cockleshell Dishy, a
December 2008-born second calver.
This one was consigned by the Pitcher
Family and is by Winnington Trumps
and out of the Grahams Samson
daughter, Cockleshell Vendee. She
sold having been AI’d to Heathmount
Trojan and with a Grahams Elliot heifer
calf at foot, Cockleshell Issitt.
Auctioneer Paul Gentry said the
strong demand for good working
cows was a sure sign of confidence in

both the Limousin breed and the beef
industry as a whole. “Strong prime beef
prices, backed by a robust store cattle
trade and ready demand for Limousinsired suckled calves, is giving breeders
the confidence to invest in the future of
their herds.”
