It’s county show time
around the country,
it seems every couple
of weeks there’s
another show popping
up. These are great
events to check out the latest in farm
machinery, network with like-minded
folk, showcase outstanding livestock
and generally have a great day out.
FORTUNATELY for many
attending some of the local
shows we’re experiencing a
bit of a heatwave, which is
great for the majority. Yet it
can cause several problems
and issues for many others,
especially animals and some
crops.
We might moan about the
rain and weather in general
in the UK, but during a hot
spell, a day or two of showers
wouldn’t go amiss.
One event that seems to
be taking over the country is
the World Cup, especially as
of writing, England have won
their first two games, and
are through to the knockout
stage. Their next game is
Belgium in a couple of days,
though by the time you
read this they’ll have played
already. So, could this be
the year in which they finally
break the 52-year drought
and win the competition,
we’ll have to wait and see.
It’s been an interesting World
Cup, with several of the big
teams being overshadowed
by some of the minnows of
world football.
So, with the heatwave and
football combined means lots
of people are venturing into
the countryside for barbe-
cues and picnics, with the
ground so dry it’s susceptible
to fires. So, we all need to
be extra careful and vigilant,
making sure all rubbish is
cleared up, especially items
such as glass. Already near
Manchester, fires are raging
across Saddleworth Moor,
causing huge damage to the
local countryside, and putting
wild and domestic animals at
risk. It’s gotten so bad, that as
of writing the Army has been
placed on standby to help if
required.
‘ we all need to be
extra careful and
vigilant, making
sure all rubbish
is cleared up
’
Well that’s all for now, see
you next issue and enjoy the
magazine.
