‘local people
who care deeply
about where
their food
comes from’
for schools which are funded
by Natural England - and they
also have an alternative land
management scheme where
they grow different grasses,
wild meadow flowers all without
using fertilisers which they are
also paid for and generates a
lot of interest.
Sally and Jonathan have
a 10 year plan for which
they are well on track. It is
for both of them to be just
farmers at Staups and no
more commuting. Sally and
Jonathan are both local
people who care deeply
about where their food comes
from, and about supplying
quality, sustainable and
environmentally-friendly
produce to their own
community. The farming
business is expanding rapidly.
They have 68 head of cattle
with 40 sucklers, 120 sheep,
breeding sows, two Welsh
black boars, 30 chickens and
one turkey at the moment but
they will do about a 100 a year
at Christmas.
‘great experience’
It was a great experience to
meet two people so passionate
about farming, a couple who
have worked so hard and
achieved so much in just a
short space of time to make
their dream come true. They
are a real inspiration.
